Hi I'm Michael

I grew up in the mountains of Tennessee. Now I am a mechanical engineer solving complex technical problems. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I wear two rings. One is my school ring for when I obtained my Master's Degree in Manufacturing Engineering. The other is my wedding band. One defines who I am, the other is just what I do. I have been married to my bride for 25 years and we have nine children, ages 2 to 24 (Five girls and four boys). I work hard at my job and excel in what I do. But my career is being a Dad! My hobbies are activites that my children enjoy. My current sport is what they are playing. It centers on what they enjoy and changes as they grow and then repeats as the younger ones grow up. My wife is the love of my life and my very best friend. I am basically a very independent person, but somehow she has become a strength to me and balances my life. She is all the things I am not and helps me become better in those parts of my life that still need work! I live in a huge metropolitan area, though I am a country boy at heart. But you bloom where you are planted. I miss the trees and water and lush vegitation of where I grew up, but I have learned the Lord blesses me where ever I am. I have learned to work on changing me instead of trying to change everything around me.

Why I am a Mormon

My mother was a first generation member of the Church. She taught me the Gospel as a child and I have always known it is true. That doesn't mean I have lived it perfectly and always known the best way to treat those around me. Just like everyone else, I am trying to do what I already know is right and learning new depths to what the Saviour taught when he walked the earth. Though taught as a child, the real reason I am a Mormon today is because I know it is true. Not because Mama said so, but because I have had my own witness from God, again and again.

How I live my faith

I have always been active serving others in the church. In fact, I believe that service to others helps my just as much or more than those I serve. I have worked a lot with the youth in the areas where I live. I have worked in the Boy Scouts of America organization in many roles helping the young men (members of our church or not) organize and carry out there activities. I served as a teaching helping others to understand the teachings of Christ. But mostly I have tried to be a neighbor in the context that Jesus asked us to be a neighbor. I help in whatever way I can not just those that live on my street, but all that I cross paths with. I can't do everything for everyone, but I can help in little ways anywhere I go. I enjoy live! Mostly, that joy comes when you have an idea of who you are and what your life on planet earth is about. I try to be better each week than the week before. You can do that as and only when you understand that Jesus Christ has suffered for your sins that you might not suffer IF you will repent. To me, that means I change what I do, what I say, and what I think to be more like what Jesus asked all of us to be.
