Hi I'm Cortney

I'm a stay-at-home-mom and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a mom and a wife, a student of life. Amid the daily schedule of loving and raising my children, I am always excited to try a new recipe, dive into a sewing project, read a good book, or browse through the thousands of inspiring ideas and photos on Pinterest. I don't spend much time on Facebook, but I love staying connected with friends. I am still a student, working from home to finish my degree online. It's been a long, slow process, but I'm determined to succeed! I fill my time with lots of activities and I've never understood when people get bored--there are just too many great things to do! I love traveling, exercising, exploring my own city, and movies with popcorn. I've had people tell me that my laugh is contagious, and I love to laugh! I've learned that I need to remind myself every day not to take things too seriously, to slow down and enjoy the simple pleasures of motherhood, and to only compare myself to myself. For a time, I cringed knowing that I lived a "fake it 'till you make it" kind of way--I was unsure of myself and I was trying to become the perfect image of motherhood. But now I understand how to "learn it 'til I love to live it"--and so that is my quest. Someday I want to be a writer. Often I don't have the words to say what I want, but I am confident that eventually the words will come. It may be just a little bit at a time, but one way or another I will share with the world something incredible.

Why I am a Mormon

I have chosen to be a member of this Church--Christ's church--because I have felt the power of His hand in my life. There are so many opportunities in life to learn of the Savior, to feel of His love, and to learn His gospel. He does not limit these blessings to just members of any one religion. But only in His church can you find the restored saving ordinances that will allow us to someday be reunited with him and with our families forever. I cannot deny the knowledge I have been given by the power of the Holy Ghost. He has spoken to my soul, and to turn away from that would remove all light from my life. Christ's gospel brings truth, peace, and happiness. Many people go through life thinking they will find those things only in death, when they pass through to the other side and find the peace of heaven. But I know that we can live and enjoy those things now as a part of our daily life. And it is through the Savior, Jesus Christ. Becoming a member of His church can bring a fulness of joy--even to an already happy life!

How I live my faith

I live my faith by treating others how Christ would treat them. I try to be an example of someone who loves and respects and appreciates each person as a child of God. I have spent time teaching Sunday school, working with the youth of the church, teaching music to the children, and serving in the holy temples. It is a joy and a pleasure to serve people because I know that when I do, I am showing the Savior my love for Him. I follow the prophet and chose to dress modestly and refrain from using fowl language. I honor my body by keeping it clean from drugs or alcohol and tobacco. I do not participate in activities that would make me embarrassed if Jesus Christ were to be with me. Most of all, I live my faith by study and prayer. I try to spend time learning about my Savior and His gospel by reading the scriptures he has given us, the Book of Mormon and the Bible, and by spending time in prayer. Some of my most sacred moments have been in study and prayer.
