Hi I'm Luke

I'm Proudly South African, love rugby and fishing, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in Cape Town, South Africa, and had the opportunity to move to the United States when I was 14. I love the outdoors, sports (particularly Rugby and hockey), and anything to do with food. I have had the opportunity to learn Spanish, and love the Hispanic Culture. One day when I grow up I want to be a pilot, and visit the world! I believe there is a lot more to life than the car we drive or the clothes we wear. If we treat our fellow man the way we would like to be treated, then we will always have friends!

Why I am a Mormon

I am so grateful for my great grandmother who moved to South Africa from Holland and accepted the gospel there. Because of her, one whole side of my ancestry has come to the knowledge of the truth. My father is a convert to the church, and only now after being a missionary do I understand the incredible sacrifice it was for him to follow what he found to be true. Influenced by these two amazing people in my life, I had the blessing of growing up in the church. I was taught truth from an early age, and am thankful for my parents for that. I too am grateful for the answer I have personally received from my Heavenly Father that the things I was taught in my youth are true. If it was not so, I would not have left my home, family and friends to serve the Lord on a mission. I think the way I feel about being Mormon is best described in a song I learned in primary. "I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I know who I am, I know God's plan, I'll follow Him in faith. I believe in the Savior Jesus Christ, I'll honor His name. I know what is right, I'll follow His light, His truth I will proclaim!" I am a Mormon because I know that Jesus Christ is real! I am looking forward to all the wonderful miracles that Heavenly Father has planned for me to see in my lifetime! I know that He lives, and that His son, Jesus Christ, is our Savior and Redeemer. He is our older brother, and loves us as such. He suffered all pains and temptations so that we dont have to. How great is the plan of happiness! I really have gained an understanding of how to love pure strangers - the coolest feeling ever.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying to help others see the light it brings to my life. I had the most amazing opportunities to share what I know to be true with God's Children in Arizona as a missionary for the past 2 years. Its interesting to think about the life of a missionary. We give up all of the "things" of the world to be closer to God. When we choose to go on a mission, we accept the call to go sacrifice our time and talents for God wherever it may be that He wants us. As I have been able to share my testimony and experiences with others, my belief in God and Jesus Christ has been strengthened incredibly! For me, its just the basics. As I strive to read the scriptures everyday, go to my church meetings and services, and pray and council with God in all I do, I feel His influence in my life and really gain a greater understanding and respect for all He does for me. I know that He loves me, and so I try to do all He requires of me to be happy. I live by certain principles and commandments because I know that God cares. I have heard many people say that "because you are a Mormon, you are restricted in the way you live" or " wow, it must be so hard to live without having fun". The truth of it is, this is the most fun way I have ever lived, and hope that I will always be able to live as free and happy as I am now. God gives us commandments to keep us safe and happy. He speaks to modern day prophets so that we, His children, can know what it is we can and need to do to return and live with Him again. I love the way I live, and love helping others see how that's possible for them too!
