Hi I'm Ben Smith

I grew up in Arizona but life has taken me to places like India, I'm a big brother, a sports lover and, I'm a mormon.

About Me

I'm Ben, I'm 20 years old and I've been around. I've lived in India, All over the American Southwest and Bolivia too. I'm currently working in West Virginia. Coming from a big family, I've learned the importance of strong family relationships. I love sports, although, it's more watching than playing these days, especially soccer. I've been all over the world, but the one thing that has stayed constant is the love from my Heavenly Father. No matter where I'm at, I can feel it and have learned to see it in the blessings and challenges of daily life.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I was raised to think for myself. I was blessed to have parents that would love and support me no matter what I chose. My father is a convert and I saw in him the value of not simply knowing because "dad says so" but of finding out for myself and learning to recognize the promptings of The Spirit. When I was 16 my family moved to India with my dad's work, it was then, when I was one of 30 active members of the church in a city of more than Ten Million, that I had to find out for myself. I said a prayer, and received and answer, not that night, and not in a vision. But as I stayed aware and tuned into what The Spirit was trying to communicate, my testimony grew and grew. Since that moment, my testimony has been challenged, I've had doubts, but that is the nature of a testimony. It's an active, ever-changing thing. It grows as we grow and can shrink if we let it. The strong values I learned from my parents have helped me to realize that if you look for something from The Lord, He'll make sure you find what you are looking for.

How I live my faith

I live my Faith everyday, from little things like OJ in the morning instead of Coffee to big things like devoting time each day to Prayer and Study of the Scriptures. I attend a University Ward and we have activities throughout the week. Work only allows me to attend so many but, Monday night gathering called, "Family Home Evening" are great ways to meet people, make friends and learn about The Gospel. I had the marvellous opportunity to serve a mission in Santa Cruz, Bolivia for the Church. Unfortunately an accident with a bus cut my time short, but I was given a great blessing of being able to serve. Service is a way I live my Faith. Everyday, there is always something we can do to serve others, big or small.

Why are only some Mormons allowed into temples? Is there something secret going on in Mormon Temples? What goes on in Mormon Temples?

Ben Smith
Nothing secret goes on inside a temple. Rather, sacred things happen there. Inside a temple we can become a family that can last forever. We learn truths that are eternal. And we provide service for those who have gone before us. And even though the inside of the temple is reserved for members living worthy to enter, the grounds are open to all and are often every bit as beautiful as the building itself, and can rpovide a quite place for relaxation, meditation and prayer.
