Hi I'm Shelly

I'm from Phoenix, Arizona. I love music and art. I speak Italian, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm the youngest of 3 and the only girl, so I had an adventurous childhood. I spent much of my time growing up studying the violin, which I've played since I was 9, or working on the high school newspaper. I attended Brigham Young University for my undergraduate degree in Youth Leadership. I then served a mission in Italy. I have since completed a master's in education and am now an instructional designer for a large corporation. In my personal life, I greatly enjoy watching college sports, writing, exercising, traveling, photography, and painting. I am an aunt to 6 beautiful nieces and nephews. While I don't yet have a family of my own, I cherish the time I have with my extended family.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a mormon because I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints is the only true and complete church on the face of the earth today. I was raised in the church, but I still had to find a testimony of my own. As I grew to know and love my Savior Jesus Christ, I learned that the only meaningful pursuit in this life is bringing joy to the lives of others through helping them find the peace that comes from the Atonement. I loved every moment of my missionary service in Italy because I got to help people understand what the LDS church really is. So many people there don't even know who we are! I also got to work with some of the most faithful and dedicated members I've ever known. The Gospel brings joy and peace to those who live the commandments and are willing to serve the Lord. I'm a mormon because I've learned from personal experience that living the Gospel brings me more happiness than anything else. The greatest joy I've found in my life is helping others find the truth and share in the happiness the Gospel brings.

How I live my faith

I attend a young single adult ward, which is a congregation specifically for unmarried members of the church from the ages of 18 to 31. I love interacting with people my own age and helping everyone learn and grow in the gospel. One way I do this is through my calling as a Sunday School teacher. Every other week I have the opportunity to teach the members of my ward about our Savior Jesus Christ and what He did for us. I also do my best to socialize with people from all types of backgrounds and faiths. It's difficult to make a difference in the world without impacting as many people as possible. I talk often of my experience as a missionary in Italy, and this often opens the door for more detailed conversations about the gospel. It's important to me that I set a good example to those around me so they can see and feel the love Heavenly Father has for all of His children. Being a good friend, sister, aunt, daughter, employee, and coworker helps those around me feel loved and respected, as everyone should. The gospel shines when people feel they are treated well, because that's how the Lord would have us treat everyone.
