Hi I'm Jake Johnson

Grew up in Mesa Az. Software Engineer. Have six kids. Love the outdoors, backpacking, running and bicycling. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am married to a wonderful wife and mother. We have six great kids that provide us many learning opportunities. I graduated from ASU in Computer Science and work as a Software Engineer. I love the outdoors and exercise. I love backpacking all over Arizona especially the Grand Canyon. I love camping at Lake Powell and camping at the beach in San Diego. I love taking my kids backpacking and am always surprised how strong they are. I start taking them backpacking 4 to 6 miles one way when they are 4-5 years old and they love it. I wish I had more time to take them more often. I enjoy endurance sports and love the life lessons and analogies that are gathered from testing our strength of mind and body. I ran my first Marathon 2 years ago. I have done a number of Century bike races, and finished my first Ironman last year. Training is hard as we see our weak areas each time and need to work through those to get better. Just like life as we try to do better we see our weak areas and as we make them our strengths we become better and better people.

Why I am a Mormon

I come from a long line of Mormon ancestors. I always felt good about going to church and keeping the commandments. In High School I decided to read the Book of Mormon for 30 minutes a day and I as I did that my life took on new meaning and I had great spiritual experiences that drew me closer to the Savior than I ever knew was possible. As I studied the Book of Mormon my eyes were opened to His Love for us and the power of his Atonement for our transgressions and our pains that we experience. This was such a powerful experience for me that I became determined to read the scriptures every day for the rest of my life. As I have continued to study the scriptures and keep the commandments my faith is renewed in the Gospel of Jesus Christ and I know that it is true and is guided by His prophets and leaders and that our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ are continuously providing us direction through His Prophets, leaders, prayers, Bible, and Book of Mormon.

How I live my faith

I continue to pray and read the scriptures each day alone and with my family. I try my best to follow the teachings of the Savior. I try never to be complacent and find those areas where I am weak and try hard to do better with the help of our Heavenly Father and our Savior. I try to be honest and caring to those around me. I try to serve others whenever possible. I am serving in the Boy Scouts as a Scout Leader (Varsity Coach). I enjoy spending time with these young men (ages 14-15) hiking, camping, and other Scout activities. I am grateful to work with such strong and stalwart young men.
