Hi I'm Emily

I'm an artist. I'm a mom. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am an artist, a graphic designer, a wife, and the mother of two awesome kids. I am part owner of a small business where we combine modern and vintage designs to create artful furniture and accents. I love the outdoors, and I love city living. I love to run, swim, and practice yoga. I love being a mom. I am politically liberal. I celebrate diversity. I love to be around all kinds of people. I am a strong supporter of public education, a defender of the environment, and a big believer in urban renewal.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of His church because every time I read the Book of Mormon, I feel the truthfulness of the words, both in my mind, and in my heart. I also know that the Book of Mormon is GOOD, and I believe that that which is true and good comes from God. I am a member of His church because I have always had a great respect for scientific discovery. Very seldom have I found that it conflicts with my understanding of His teachings. In fact, I often find that science complements my faith, instead of weakening it. I am a member of His church because I know my Savior is Jesus Christ and that he loves me. I have felt him carry me through difficult times and take away the hurt. I have become closer to him by reading the Book of Mormon and attending church.

How I live my faith

My faith continually pushes me out of my comfort zone. From working with the youth in inner-city Chicago, to visiting elderly in the Harlem projects, to teaching 3 year-olds about the scriptures, I have gained a greater love and respect for all of his children. This is not a big deal to some people, but in the church we are ALL asked to do these types of things. I think this emphasis on regular, small acts of service, has enabled me, and other church members, to see that we are all children of God, trying to make our way in this world. We are given constant opportunities to serve the people around us, but I think my favorite job in the church has been my most recent one, to work with girls ages 8-11. I get to lead them in activities which build their self esteem, bring them closer to their Heavenly Father, give them opportunities to serve, and are just plain fun.
