Hi I'm Cherri

I'm a musician, mom, grandma, school music teacher, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I live to create! Whether it is with fabric, yarn, paints, food, or one of my many musical instruments. I love the time I spend creating new and exciting crafts, food, or music. I even get up in the middle of the night if I get an idea of something to create! I often write songs that I share with my K-6th grade elementary music classes, with my husband, or with my children and grandchildren. I also enjoy arranging hymns into choral renditions. My husband and I have been married for almost 35 years, and we have 6 children and 13 adorable grandchildren. I love life! I'm so grateful for my many gifts and talents.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born to parents who were Mormons. They raised me and taught me to keep the commandments, to go to church, and to be a good person. As I grew, I gained my own personal testimony of the truth of our church. It didn't come easy - it took scripture study, church attendance, prayer and fasting, and listening for the Holy Ghost to testify to me. When I devote time and effort into these activities, I am blessed to have the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost. He prompts me and helps me know how to react to stresses around me, how to relate with my family and co-workers, and how to love my eternal spouse. I am indebted to my Savior, Jesus Christ. I am amazed by his patience for me, and I am forever grateful for the incredible price He paid in my behalf in the Garden of Gethsemane, and on the cross of Calvary. I know this is His true gospel, and that if we live worthy, we will be able to live - as eternal families - with him again.

How I live my faith

Some people wonder how we can be so dedicated to our religion, how we can follow the dress and health codes, and how we can live such "pure" lives in a world that doesn't live that way. My answer to them is "because of my adherence to those concepts, I am healthier and happier." With our Word of Wisdom, we are given a health code that can keep our bodies strong and healthy. With our dress and morality codes, we can keep our minds strong and healthy. Our families can be stronger, and there can be more trust between spouses. I try to be an example of the gospel at home, work, and in my neighborhood. I try to help my neighbors and friends when they move, have a baby, deal with hardship, or are sick. At church, I teach little 5 year-old children about Jesus and His church. Sometimes I am asked to play the piano or organ, or to conduct the singing during our worship service or during other axillary meetings. I have joy when I am serving.

Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

Cherri
My 4th son is currently serving a mission in the Philippines. His older brothers served in Brazil, Hong Kong, and Chile. It is a great blessing to these young men to be able to devote 2 full years in service to God. They have nothing else to think about or worry about. No girls, no school, no car, no job, no parents, nothing! With these distractions gone, they can completely concentrate on their testimonies and on sharing the gospel. Why do they go? We believe that every being who has been, or is now on the earth needs to get an opportunity to hear and then to accept or reject the true church. We pray they will accept the beautiful words of the gospel. This is why we send thousands of young men, young women, and older couples all over the world to fulfill this responsibility.
