Hi I'm Josh

I am a Seattle area native, a basketball and hiking junkie, I love my family, and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I love spending time with my wife and three kids. I enjoy taking them out to appreciate the incredible Pacific Northwest and I am enjoying them growing up and getting them involved in sports. I teach at the community college and am earning a PhD in Community College Leadership to assist me in the transition to administration. I have coached strength and conditioning, basketball and cross country at the college level, but I am afraid of my new challenge, teaching soccer to 5 year olds. In my free time I play basketball, softball, run, hike, backpack, and lift weights. I love to read, especially leadership books.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the church and benefited from the great example and support from my family. At the age of 8 I was first exposed to people who attacked our beliefs. Concerned, I asked my Dad if Joseph Smith was a prophet. In his wisdom, he asked me what I thought. I searched my heart and found that I absolutely felt confident that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God and the Father and the Son, Jesus Christ, did in fact visit him and instruct him. This was the first of many experiences that have helped cement my faith in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. When I was 15 I felt a real need to read The Book of Mormon. It was a life changing experience and I have read the inspired words of prophets every day since, including the Old and New Testament. It helped prepare me to serve a two year mission in Las Vegas, Nevada. My mission was a remarkable experience and a critical step to personal growth. As I served others I had a glimpse of how the Savior feels about his us. Why do I believe? On countless occassions I have felt the peace and love that comes from living the gospel. I have studied it in my heart and mind and have prayed and asked God. I cannot deny the answers he has given me.

How I live my faith

I enjoy serving in the church and the community. My two favorite church responsibilities have been teaching classes and working with the young men. I have found that I always benefit more than those I teach. Digging into the scriptures and prayerfully considering what message to deliver is a special experience. Working with the young men is so rewarding. In addition to Sunday lessons, we also do weekly activities that focus on developing the whole person, including education, athletics, professional, etc. Once a year we do a "super activity" which is frequently backpacking. I thorougly enjoy witnessing the growth of these young men as they mature. Their achievements are impressive. I also enjoy physical service. It feels good to lighten others burdens. It is indeed the example that Christ has set.

What do Mormons believe about Jesus Christ? Do Mormons believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God?

Josh
Jesus Christ is the Son of God and the Savior of the world. He has paid for our sins with his blood, and through Him, and only Him, we can return to live with our Heavenly Father. During my two-year teaching mission to Las Vegas it was my great privilige to testify of the reality of the Lord Jesus Christ. Show more Show less

What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

Josh
Daily scripture study is an important part of my life. I had read the scriptures here and there starting at the age of 10, but when I was 15 I knew it was something I needed in my life every day. I started with the Book of Mormon and continued on to the Old and New Testament, and then on to other writings of the leaders of the church. In total I have probably read the Book of Mormon, Old Testament and New Testament, combined, at least 30-40 times, probably more. When my wife and I got married 10 years ago we decided we would end each day with a brief scripture study and prayer together, in addition to our individual studies and prayers. It has laid a foundation for us to center our relationship and our family on Jesus Christ. It has helped us have a peaceful and happy relationship. Reading the scriptures invites the Spirit into my heart and helps me to stay centered on the real purpose of life. Show more Show less
