Hi I'm Sister Corrine Merrell

I'm a Gamer, a Writer, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a college student working toward a degree in English. I wish to become a writer someday, and I love writing Fantasy! I love to read, write, draw, play the piano, but most of all spend time with my family! Yet in August 2014 I gave it all up. I left behind my family, friends, education... everything I've ever known. I am currently serving a mission for the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and I love it! It was hard to leave and give everything up, especially since being a missionary is a rigorous, tiring, uplifting, 24/7 calling. But it makes me the happiest I've ever been! Now I can meet new people every day and help them draw closer to God and his son, Jesus Christ.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised a Mormon. I was alway taught what Mormons believe and went to Mormon church every week, but it took until I was a teenager before I actually was converted, before I really 'became' a Mormon and believed it for myself. All my life I had heard about how in order to gain a testimony, or the knowledge that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was true, you have to read the Book of Mormon, and I had, but I was missing a crucial step. I still needed to pray, to ask God, wanting to know the truth and act on it. But for years I didn't. Why? Because I was afraid. I was afraid that I would not get an answer, that thus God wouldn't exist, and then the church I had been raised in was a lie. It took months, years even, before I finally had enough courage to get down on my knees. I asked Him, God, was the Book of Mormon true? Was the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints His gospel once again on the earth? After I finished speaking I waited, still slightly afraid I would receive no answer, but I did. I saw no pillar of light, had no visitation from an angel, but my heart swelled within me. I broke out into a smile as a happiness poured into my soul, and suddenly I knew that the Book of Mormon was true! I knew it without a shadow of a doubt! That is when I truly became a Mormon, and it is because of that confirmation of truth that I believe and act the way I do today.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by keeping the commandments and following the council put forth by God and his prophets, ancient and modern; by embracing my calling as a missionary and working all day every day to help others come to Christ and follow His example. I strive to always remember Christ in all I do, even when life gets hard. But most of all I learn of Him everyday so that I might better follow his example myself.

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

Sister Corrine Merrell
The Atonement of Jesus Christ is the most important event that has ever happened in the history of mankind. Through Christ's suffering in the Garden of Gethsemane and the cross, he atoned or suffered for our sins. But it was not only our sins he suffered for, but also for our sorrows, pains, infirmities, and sicknesses. He did this so that, "...he may know... how to succor his people according to their infirmities" (Alma 7:11-12). The Atonement of Jesus Christ is what allows us to be forgiven of our sins; it is what allows us to come closer to God and to change to be more like him. It is what can help us through the hard times and give us joy in the good. It was necessary for Him to die for us because there was no one else who could do so. Only He lived a perfect life and was thus capable to take upon himself the sins of the world. Only He was the Son of God and could rise again. To fully utilize the Atonement in our lives, we have to have Faith in Jesus Christ, repent of our sins, be baptized and confirmed by one having authority, receive the Holy Ghost, keep God's commandments, receive ordinances or make special promises with God, and daily strive to be like Jesus Christ. If we do this, we will be able to live happier lives as we draw closer to God, and one day be able to return and live with Jesus Christ and our Heavenly Father again. Show more Show less
