Hi I'm Derek

I am a family man, a sportsman, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the son of a Hawaiian and a Pennsylvanian. I am the third of four boys. We are a family that makes moments and memories, just like that saying goes, "Good times, good times . . . " I am a avid sportsman. I've played baseball, basketball, golf, soccer, tennis, ran track, and wrestled competitively in my life. I love the accountability that comes along with sports. Everything you do, whether it be how fast you run, how you bend the ball, whether you pass it or take the shot yourself, your relationship and unity with your teammates, all is an influence to the outcome of the game/match/tournament/meet you're a part of. I am currently serving a two year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the state of Washington.

Why I am a Mormon

My mother was a Mormon growing up, however, my father was not. He was introduced to church several times growing up and was converted to the gospel of Jesus Christ and was baptized later in his life. I grew up in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and became a member when I was baptized. I'm a Mormon because unity and friendships with family and others takes top priority. There is a reason why we don't come into this world alone. We are born into a family and there are certain people who are placed into our lives to be an influence to help us learn lessons in life. In the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, family is of monumental import. I'm a son, a brother, and a uncle, and I have certain responsibilities as such that I must fulfill, and being Mormon helps me better understand and accomplish those tasks.

How I live my faith

To many the Savior beckoned, "Follow me." I live my faith by striving to learn, understand, and live His teachings and His ways. I pray to my Father in Heaven because I know He hears and answers my prayers because He loves me with a perfect love. I search the scriptures because they are a strength and an anchor to my soul. They help carry me through fatigue and past my vale of sorrows into a renewal of strength and a vision of the happiness and blessings that lie ahead. The way I act and live my life displays my faith in Christ.
