Hi I'm Marilyn

I'm an inner-city high school teacher. I'm a sister, a daughter and a friend. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm pretty much your average single, working, woman in her late twenties. After graduating college I moved across the country to start working as a high school teacher. I never thought that working in the inner-city would be my niche, but I love my job, it's exactly where I want to be. The kids can be crazy, but I still smile on my way to work every single day. On top of teaching, I just became a student again. I'm getting my Masters in Bilingual Education, Literacy and Reading. I'm excited for this new adventure in my life, but it can be difficult to reverse the role from teacher to student! I like to spend my free time with friends, going out to dinner, watching movies or just hanging out. I consider myself lucky to have wonderful friends who support me, no matter what is going on.

Why I am a Mormon

Life isn't easy, there are always going to be moments when things seem remarkably unfair, but there is one thing that is constant in my life, and that's the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I remember, as a teenager, learning about the church, and what it is that Mormon's believe, and it made so much sense to me. Going to church is an important part of my life, not because it's a way to escape the troubles of life, but because it's there, in the Lord's house, that I learn how to deal with the troubles of life.

How I live my faith

I work with the young women in my church. I get the opportunity to plan activities that will help them in all aspects of their lives, and more often than not, just to have fun. I like working with kids, since it's what I do for a living, but this allows me to see them in a different light, and not just teaching them about Romeo and Juliet! I try to help out with whatever I can.
