Hi I'm Emily

I'm an English teacher, dancer, outdoor enthusiast, aspiring writer, and step-mom. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I teach English as a Second Language to international college students. I really love getting to meet people from all over the world and learn a little bit about their language, country, and culture. In my free time, I try to exercise as much as possible. Some of my favorite ways to exercise are ballet & tap dancing, hiking, and rock climbing. When I'm not working, exercising, or cleaning up after my family, I enjoy reading, and I've always got a book or two on my night table. Hopefully someday I'll be the author of a book that's on someone else's night table!

Why I am a Mormon

I've been a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints my entire life, but I haven't always actively attended church. When I was a teenager, I decided that the church was restricting my freedom, so I stopped going. In my early twenties, I realized that my life wasn't where I wanted it to be. A series of events caused me to evaluate my decisions and reconsider what I wanted to get out of life. I started attending church again, and I knew instantly that I had made the right choice. Things started coming together for me. I gained clarity, focus, and fulfillment in my life. I started receving job opportunities, and a career path opened up for me. It was as if I had been in the dark and a light bulb came on. That light is the gospel of Jesus Christ. I truly believe that we are all God's children, and that we can speak to Him through prayer and he can speak to us through personal revelation. I know that sounds crazy to a lot of people - the idea that anyone can talk to God. But I know it's true. I have felt His love and have received answers to my prayers in such a way that I have no doubt that God is listening. I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is our Savior. We owe Him a tremendous debt for His sacrifice. I consider the knowledge of the gospel truth to be the greatest gift I have ever received in this life. This gospel truth is found in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. And that is why I'm a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I live my faith every day! I choose to pray and read my scriptures daily. I choose not to drink, smoke, or subject myself to harmful media influences. I try to be honest and kind to others. I'm not perfect, but I do my best in trying to live a Christian life. My husband even makes fun of me for wanting to "follow all of the rules." Currently, I serve in my church by teaching Sunday School. I am no master scriptorian, so it was a very daunting assignment at first. But I really enjoy studying the scriptures and learning something new every week.
