Hi I'm Maria

I'm constantly striving towards excellence and to live life adventurously the entire time and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Ranking as number 5 of 6 children, I'm currently a sophomore in college, double majoring in Anthropology and Chinese. People often say I'm crazy and they're totally right. I love sports and being active! I love team sports, running and biking I am on my college's racquetball team. I'm a novice longboarder and swing dancer but always trying to improve. Music is one of the most important things in my life because of the way it can be used to express pure, simple, yet powerful emotion. I've grown up with a strong musical influence and, even though I fought it for the longest time, it has been a blessing in my life. I've picked up a plethora of instruments and I'm always on a quest to learn more! I'm a passionate person. Once I have a goal in mind, I strive after it with all of my strength because I know its worth it. Why waste the little time we have on superficial things?

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the Church. My mother has been a member her whole life and my father has been a member since he converted in his late teens. Some people might think I am a Mormon because that's how I was raised but that's not quite it. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints because of the truth it contains. In my life, I will get my doubts and my fears. Is there really a point to all that I'm doing? Does my presence make a difference? In a world of over 6 billion people, its easy to feel alone and insignificant. I think that's the worst misconception a person can have. That's why the Gospel is so important. I believe with all my heart that there is a God who knows and loves me and has a plan for me. Like I believe the sun will rise in the morning, I believe God and his Son, Jesus Christ, are there to help me up when I'm in pain and sorrow. When I'm struggling in doubt, I am lifted up by the light of the Savior's love for me. There is truth in this Gospel. I am loved, I am important to God's plan, and I am here for a reason.

How I live my faith

I live the Gospel through my actions. I strongly believe that I should be an example of my faith. I try to act towards others with love and kindness, the way I know Christ would be. I am honest in my actions and words. I put a smile on my face and go on my way, hoping to be a light in someone's life. In my studies, I am met with lots of theories and information that will contradict my beliefs. There's nothing that I can do about it. I learn and accept these things as theories. I'm not an expert or a professor, I can't argue with them. As I go through my school studies, I immerse myself in the Gospel. Equalizing my secular learning, which can be clouded and confusing, with learning the true and perfect Gospel is how I balance my life and live my faith in a world that might not smile on the pious.
