Hi I'm Heather

I'm a wife, a mother of four, including a daughter with special needs, a dental hygienist, a musician, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a full-time mother of four, with an additional full-time job as a dental hygienist. I love my job and the opportunity it gives me to help people to improve their health, and consequently their lives. I also love to sing and perform. Music has always been a major part of my life, starting with piano lessons, to playing the violin in my schools' orchestras, and singing frequently at church. I recently starred in a musical production put on by our church, based loosely on the Broadway show "Wicked." I had so much fun getting into my character and singing the songs, that I think now I have the "acting bug." I am currently writing another musical with my best friend and costar! I also have a passion for reading. I started a book club with the ladies at our church where we take turns selecting a book to read and discuss each month. We probably spend more time chatting and laughing than discussing books, but I love it! What I am most passionate about, however, is my family. I absolutely love being a mom. I have a teenager, a t'weener, a toddler, and a very special daughter with special needs. My daughter was born with a rare neurological condition called lissencephaly. It causes seizures, as well as severe physical and developmental delays. When she was diagnosed, we were told that children with her condition have a two year life-expectancy. Well, now she is seven! She is currently learning to walk, something we never thought was possible! She is our own special miracle!

Why I am a Mormon

More than anything else, I know that Jesus Christ is my Savior. I have felt his love to me and to those I love on a daily basis. Whenever I read the scriptures, particularly the Book of Mormon, I feel a warmth rush over me, and can almost hear a soft voice, as if speaking to my soul, telling me that what I am reading is true. The stories from the Bible and Book of Mormon are not just stories, but are real events which happened in ancient times to real people. I can learn more about my Savior and his teachings by going to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. When I am there, I recieve those same wonderful feelings, reaffirming to me that it is true, and it is real. I also receive love and support from other members of the church. We are all there for each other, lifting one another up, and giving support where it is needed.

How I live my faith

I am currently a youth leader at our church, particularly with the girls ages twelve and thirteen. I have the opportunity to teach them basic truths of the gospel, and help them to develop their own personal witness of Jesus Christ, their older brother and Savior. I teach them that they are all daughters of a loving Heavenly Father, who wants nothing more than to see them happy and return to live with Him someday. I also help organize activities meant to develop their skills, talents, and sense of their inherent worth. Serving in the church has been one the biggest blessings in my life. You can't help but love those that you serve, even when they start out as complete strangers.
