Hi I'm Spencer

I am a student at BYU, a leader, an outdoors enthusiast, a Missionary, and I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I am going to college at BYU, I just completed my freshman year there and I am taking a two year break from school to serve a mission down in Mexico for two years. I love to go skiing, and boarding in the snow and the water, along with camping, hiking, swimming, rock climbing, and pretty much anything else in the great outdoors. I also love to play soccer, and enjoy playing tennis. Before I left for my mission I was a checker at a grocery store. I am originally one of five boys, but after my mother died of cancer, my father remarried a wonderful lady with three amazing girls.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know that this is Christ's church restored on the earth again. I love knowing that if I make a mistake that I am able to be forgiven of my sins because of Christ's atonement. Another reason that I love being Mormon is that nobody in our church gets paid to do anything! Everybody that holds leadership positions, is in charge of the youth group, is a teacher, or is involved in any other way is doing what they are doing out of pure love for the people. One of the biggest reasons that I love being a Mormon is the values that I have been taught. I am so thankful that the church encourages high standards, and that none of them are forced upon you. The power of agency is real, but like anything we do in life we will suffer or rejoice in the consequences of our actions. My absolute favorite part about being a Mormon is knowing that my family will be together forever!!! I would have been lost after losing my mom, who was my best friend, and who I was very close to if I didn't know that I would be able to be with her again someday in heaven. Knowing that if I live my life in the way that God would want me to that I would be rewarded with returning to live with him someday is what brought me the most comfort. Just knowing who we are, why we are here, and where we are going brings so much peace and happiness to my life! We are children of God, and he does care, love, and know each and everyone of us individually. I have felt God's love comfort me after my mom passed away, he knew exactly what I needed every time I was feeling down, lonely, or depressed. I know that Christ suffered and died for us so that we can return to live with our Heavenly Father someday, I also know that the Book of Mormon is a true book, sent from God as another testament of Christ and his visit to the Americas. I also know that we have a prophet here on the earth today and that he his here to lead and guide us. I know this church is true, and that I would be nothing without it.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by my daily actions. I try my hardest to be Christ like in every way possible. I love having opportunities to serve and help others! I have been heavily involved in planning events for all sorts of youth and young adults. In college I was on a team that helped plan service, and fun activities for a group of 25 or so men. During my senior year of high school I was part of a team that organized a week long summer camp for 250-300 young men. This camp was focused on growing spiritually, physically, and socially. Before that I have planned weekly activities for a small youth group, and large scale regional activities for all of the youth in the area. In the community I loved to help out at the local soup kitchen, and I served in many different leadership positions at my high school. I have loved every opportunity that I have ever had to serve others!
