Hi I'm Melinda

I'm an accountant, musician, avid reader, cat lover, wife, mother-to-be, and I’m a Mormon.

About Me

I'm the baby of 9 children and love the interactions of a big family. My own baby is due soon, and I'm excited to experience the adventure of motherhood. I'm an accountant by profession, though an outgoing one if I may say so myself. When I have time to relax and do something fun, I sit down and play classical music on the piano. I started playing the piano when I was 5. I also love to read books, play the trumpet, sing, organize, clean, garden, watch movies, and play with my cats. I am a total penny pincher. To save money, I cut my husband's hair, coupon (though not like the crazy people on TV), buy my chicken on the bone and cut it off myself, don't have cable TV, buy used furniture, and ask my husband to do all our home and car maintenance.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I find that nothing else I do can replace the peace and joy that comes from living the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I believe that there are prophets once again on the Earth, and that we have one at the head of this church. It is a miracle and a blessing to be led by a prophet that is the mouthpiece of God. I also believe that my family can be together forever because of the blessings of the Temple of God. Although I was born and raised a Mormon, I had to come to my own realization that this is God's Church. As I have studied and pondered the Bible and Book of Mormon, the Spirit of God has spoken the truth of them to me. I know that God hears and answers our prayers because he has answered mine! I am so richly blessed and know God loves me.

How I live my faith

The great thing about this church is that everyone has an opportunity to serve. With Jesus Christ as my example, I have gained love and understanding for those I serve and serve alongside of. I have served in diverse capacities, including teaching adult women, teaching 16-18 year-old girls, and playing the piano for the children's classes. My husband and I taught 4-6 year-old children together for 2.5 years, which was probably my favorite service. We still think of those boys and girls as "our kids" because we came to love them and appreciate how unique each of God's children really are. I currently serve with 3 other women over 8-11 year-old girls two weeknights per month. We teach the girls life skills and do fun crafts and activities together.
