Hi I'm Shawn

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My name is shawn and live in sunny arizona. I am the youngest of five children of a family with pioneer ancestors. I am married to a wonderful woman who compliments and supports me in every way. I recently returned home from a mission in Portland Oregon where i served the Lord with the Hispanic community. I am now attending college and working at a bank where i have the opportunity to practice my Spanish often and meet wonderful people. I love reading and learning new things. I also love nature and enjoy it whenever i can.

Why I am a Mormon

It has been an incredible blessing to grow up within the church. I really did not realize how amazing it was though until i was about 14 years old. My whole life until then was mainly routine. My mom and dad both served in various callings and i admired the faith they had. I went to church mainly because my parents wanted me to go. Everything was going fine and i saw no need for change until an event happened that would change everything for me. It was a Labor day morning, and our family was just getting ready to go out for our usually Labor Day traditions. Just before leaving, our parents brought us into their room where we were informed that they were splitting up. The reality did not hit me for some time. When it did, I felt this unreal sensation come over me.. It was a feeling that what was always consistent in my life was suddenly not there. I went on like that for a while until my sophomore year of High School. I realized that i did not have a testimony of my own, or even knew what that meant. I took the challenge given to read the Book of Mormon and to pray about it to know if it really was true. If God had really given the power to translate that Testament of Jesus Christ from an ancient record, to an unschooled young man. Each night, i read this book that i had probably read twice before, and i prayed every night to know if it was true. I had an experience each night that i had never felt before. I would sit for hours on end reading from that book and feeling a warmth and a comfort that i had not felt before. I began to feel more confident as i read and learned that i am a child of God, and that he really has sent me here for a reason. For the first time i really felt sure of who i was, and nothing else seemed to matter to me. I felt a stable foundation that i had not felt since the moment before i walked in my parents room that Labor Day morning.

How I live my faith

I served a two year mission in Portland Oregon and was assigned to learn the Spanish language. Each night my wife and i read from the scriptures and discuss what we can do to improve. I have served in different ways in my local congregation. My wife and I recently taught 3 to 4 year old children simple gospel principles each week and developed a great love for them. My main goal though is to try to be kind and treat people the way Christ would. I want to learn something new each day that i can do better to fully follow the example of Jesus Christ.
