Hi I'm Charlene

I'm a wife. Mom to 6 and grandma to 13. I've been an RN for 30 years and worked 20 yrs with terminally ill children.I'm a Mormon.

About Me

About 10 years after my high school graduation, I decided to return to college. With 4 children at home, it was hard to be back in school but I found that if I put my family first, I was blessed with the ability to do the school work also. I became a registered nurse. I worked half time balancing my career with motherhood and homemaking. I learned many life impacting things from being a nurse of terminally ill children and adults. I relied heavily on my testimony of God the father and my Savior Jesus Christ to make sense of the suffering and loss of children and parents to cancer and other terminal diseases. I was often called upon to share my understanding of God's plan for us to bring comfort to families who had suffered the loss of a loved one. With all that I learned as a nurse I learned even more from my role as wife and mother. My heart has always been with my family first. My children taught me so much about the Savior. I know that as much as I love my family and as much as I am willing to do for them, my Savior has done so much more for me and has shown so much more love for me. My family has taught me so much about my Father in heaven and Jesus Christ my Savior. I have come to have so much gratitude for their watchful eye and hand in my life.

Why I am a Mormon

I remember learning to pray as a preschooler. I felt the spirit when I prayed. I understood that I was a child of God. I understood that as God's children, everyone who lived on earth are spiritual brothers and sisters. I asked my mother many deep questions about God, the Father and my elder brother, Jesus Christ. When I was 7 years old. I was taught by the missionaries of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. With my understanding of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, I was able to feel the spirit whisper that what I was learning was true. My testimony of the restored gospel began to expand. Seeds were planted that I understood. Although I did not know all things, I knew that I felt the spirit and that what I understood was true. I was baptized on my 8th birthday. My understanding of the principles and doctrines of the church increased and my testimony increased. As an adult, I came to rely heavily on my understanding of God's plan for me to be the best wife, mother, and nurse that I could be. Without the gospel of Jesus Christ in my life, I would not have the direction and purpose that brings me the joy that I feel. To know that I am a child of God, that I came to earth to grow and learn by experience, and that I will live in heaven again after this life, gives me all that I need to maneuver through this life successfully. I am so thankful that my Heavenly Father placed me on earth and allowed me to be part of a wonderful family. I am so thankful for all of the experiences, good and difficult, that teach me. I am so grateful for my role model, Jesus Christ who set the example that I can strive to follow. Without the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, I would not know the value and importance of all things.

How I live my faith

I strive to continue to be a good example and influence to my grown children and grandchildren. My husband and I serve each Sunday at a worship service for institutionalized people with cognitive and emotional disabilities. Our friends at the center have a very sweet spirit and love the worship through music program presented for them each Sunday. I do not play the piano or have great musical talent but I love to sing with our friends. I try to follow the example of my Savior, Jesus Christ by asking myself, "What would Jesus do?" whenever I am required to do something I find difficult. Sometimes I think, "Jesus would do that for me" then I remember He already has... and so much more. I try to let my neighbors know that I am willing and available to them as a friend and support. I try to love my neighbors. I try to understand those who would be an enemy so that I might show my love to my Heavenly Father by loving all of His children. I know how I feel when my children are kind and loving to each other, and can therefore imagine how Jesus Christ and God the Father feel when we show love for our brothers and sisters.
