Hi I'm Tanisha

I'm a Kappa Delta, a member of the Utah State Debate team, a full time missionary in Texas Houston East & I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a psychology major, and plan to get my bachelors degree in psychology and then my masters in applied behavioral analysis, and hope to work with children with autism. I love working with kids. I am a member of Kappa Delta sorority and I love my sisters so much they are always there for me. I love my family they are so important to me. I just really like to be around people, I love making friends, I love caring for people and being able to help them with their lives.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the Church, my parents both served missions in brazil, and the gospel was very strong in my home, as I got older I realized that I had been going to church to satisfy my parents and that parts of my testimony I had not gained on my own but rather I had been depending on the faith of my family. As I attended school I became less and less active in the church. As I did so I began to feel as if i was floundering I wasn't doing anything bad but I didn't seem to have purpose in my life, as I had this feeling I was driven to my knees pleading with the lord for hours every night that I would know what to do in my life. After about a week of this I visited my friend who had recently decided to serve a mission and was preparing to leave. As I asked him why he was going on a mission I was overcome with an undeniable feeling of peace and direction, I knew that god had answered my prayers and that I needed to come unto christ through the church. I have such a strong testimony of god and how he knows each one of us on such a personal level, he knows exactly what we need and when we need it. I know that if we go to him with a sincere heart he will answer our prayers and we will not only have peace in our life but purpose. I am so greatful to have this knowledge in my life.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying to do all that I can to be Christ like so that I can be an example to others. I think that the best way to live any faith is by allowing others to feel loved and accepted, and to share the wonderful gift that I have with them when they are ready. The ultimate way that I can do this is by serving a mission, and I'm doing just that, I'm currently serving the spanish speaking people in East Houston.

Why do some call Mormonism a cult?

Tanisha
In my experience people who have voiced their concern about me being a member of a cult, simply did not have a firm understanding of the church, instead they saw that my friends and I did not participate in somethings that they found common place, such as drinking, smoking, and having premarital sex, they also found that the amount of time I put into my faith with going to church on sunday, participating in activities and going to church education, was more time then they felt should be spent in an organization. After clarifying that I choose to allocate my time towards church activities, rather than other events, and inviting them to participate in church meetings or activities, I found that people seemed a little more at ease knowing that I was not being forced to do anything "crazy".
