Hi I'm Shelley

I'm a daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a Mother and a Grandmother and I love being with my family whether it is going for a walk, making a movie, or having a pizza and a movie night. I enjoy reading and writing stories for my Grandchildren. I like creating things with my hands and have enjoyed learning many crafts though I mostly do crocheting and make jewelry. I enjoy camping with my family or with the girls from church and love hiking but I'm not too thrilled with backpacking. I love music and singing especially at Christmas time, but really anytime I can get all my family together and they sing in harmony and when their voices blend it can set your spirit soaring, even if it's just a goofy little song.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised in the LDS church and it has always been an important part of my life. As a young teen I would look at the crazy world around me and be glad that my home was a haven that was always there. When I married I wanted that same haven for my children and I knew that I couldn't do it unless I had a strong testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ that I could pass down to my children like my parents did; so I decided to read the Book of Mormon again and this time I would do as Moroni directed and kneel down and ask Heavenly Father if it was true. The response was like a wave of assurance that the Lord loved me and that what I had read was true. And though this answer came to me many years ago the feeling is still there! I know that the Church of Jesus Christ is true, I know that Heavenly Father loves us and wants us to come home. I know that Jesus Christ lives and that He speaks to a prophet today. I know that because Jesus suffered in Gethsemane and died on the cross I have the chance to repent and to become more like He wants me to be and I know that this is the only way to be truly happy in this world. I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God and that he translated the Book of Mormon. I know that the Book of Mormon is true, I love to read it and to feel the Spirit as I learn more about my Savior. I know that Thomas S Monson is a prophet today and that he guides this church the way Jesus tells him to. I know that through a Temple sealing we can be families through all eternity. I know that it is because of this knowledge that my Husband and I have been able to raise our children to be happy and to be the wonderful people that they are. This is important to me because as an Eternal Family I want my children to have their own testimonies so that we can spend the eternities together as a family.

How I live my faith

My testimony of Jesus Christ and the Church of Jesus Christ affects every facet of my life. It is not something I think about only on Sunday but it is a blessing every day of the week. We are taught to pray often and to Study the Scriptures daily, and this really helps when you face the unpleasant parts of life. As a High School student I attended Seminary, an early morning scripture study class, and now I take my children; getting that spiritual boost really is the best way to start the day We are taught in the church that we are all sons and daughters of a loving Heavenly Father and that He sent us down here as families and that we as parents are responsible to teach and train and love those of His children He sends down to our homes. This knowledge helps me treat my children lovingly even when I am frustrated by their behavior. Many years ago the Church began a family home evening program and when I was a young married Monday night was set aside as a Family Night, where we spend the evening together learning more about the gospel, having fun activities, singing, and having treats. My children and grandchildren also attend youth activities on Wednesday night and youth dances. As a woman in the church I have the opportunity to visit other women on a monthly basis either in their homes or on the phone, in this way we get to know each other and then we can find ways we can help each other. One of my favorite things to do is to serve in Relief Society, our Women's Organization, serving my sisters in the gospel brings me true joy. I also enjoy seeking out my ancestors and learning more about them, learning enough so they become real to me and not just a name on a family tree. I love taking their names to the temple so we can be sealed together for eternity as an Eternal Family. Working in the Temple brings me a joy and peace that can't be found any place else in this world of turmoil. I Love the Gospel and the peace and joy that it brings into my life.
