Hi I'm Dana

I'm a convert. I'm a missionary. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'll just start off by saying I am a huge geek. HUGE GEEK! And totally proud of it. In fact, it helps me relate to so many people who ask about the church or what I believe in. For example, I can relate our Heavenly Father's Plan of Salvation to The Avengers (the movie). I come from a non-LDS family because I converted when I was 15 years old. Best decision I ever made. I was never that interested or concerned with religion because growing up my life was "perfectly normal". I lived in a beautiful yet humble home in a safe neighborhood, had loving parents and family, had lots of friends, was healthy and active in sports, and did well in school. But everything changed when my Dad died. (see why I am a Mormon section). I live with my Mom and step-dad, along with my sister and two step-brothers, but will soon be leaving for my mission. I love them so much and I will miss them every day I am gone, but it will only bring us closer. I consider myself unique in the sense that I have a very different perspective on life than many do. I struggle with depression, but my faith in God and my Savior is what gives me motivation to see through to tomorrow. Because of my personal struggles with depression, self injury, and personal losses to suicide, I've been able to help others find peace and strength in Christ. I have every desire to live life to its fullest by serving my Heavenly Father, and making the most of the beautiful life that He has so graciously bestowed upon me.

Why I am a Mormon

Well, I wasn't always Mormon. I actually grew up with little knowledge of Christ and my Heavenly Father. I never really felt the need to know much about them or church or the Bible (or really anything about Christianity) until my Dad died. I had so many questions that I felt no one could answer. "Why did this happen to me? Will I see my Dad again? Is he in heaven or hell? Does heaven or hell really exist? Does God exist? Why would God let this happen to a 12 year old girl?" I refused my friends' invitations to go to any churches because I was embarrassed at my lack of knowledge and my doubts. About a year later, I became best friends with some guys who were Mormon. I never really knew what Mormons were, or that my friends were even Mormons. They were persistent yet gentle in asking me to come to church. I was struggling and going down some very dangerous paths for my well being. My friend, Brady, would text me and talk to me on the phone about the church and what he believed. It never really hit me until he told me that there was a way for me to see my Dad again, through a process called sealing in the temple. It was a promise that as long as I did my best to be faithful and obedient, I could gain eternal life with my entire family, not just my Dad. Those were the words that tore down my walls. I started taking lessons with the missionaries, and everything they said was true. I didn't doubt anything they said, I just knew. After about 5 months of going to church and taking the lessons, I made the decision to get baptized. To this day, it remains the best decision I've ever made. It hasn't all been smooth sailing since I joined, and in fact the first couple of years were the hardest because I had to change everything in my life. Those changes though have been for the best and I am grateful God gave me the courage to say yes to life. I am a Mormon because it brings me happiness and hope for a better tomorrow.

How I live my faith

I am a missionary serving in the California Roseville Mission. Let me just say, I AM SO EXCITED to be here!!!!!!!!!! I have no greater desire right now than to serve God's children by reminding them who they are and inviting them to come unto happiness, found in our Savior's arms and love. I listen to lots of Christian and gospel music to bring myself closer to God, including Sidewalk Prophets, Tenth Avenue North, Meredith Andrews, David Archuleta, and many many more. I just try to be the best example of Christlike love and it is incredible how people can see His light shine forth in an individual.
