Hi I'm Derek Michael

I am from Washington state, but serving in the Laoag, Philippines mission. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Having just graduated high school with an associates of science, through the running start program, I am currently serving a mission in Laoag Philippines. I am the fourth of five sons and grew up in the church. My hobbies include running, reading, and listening to music. My favorite subjects have always been mathematics and science, and hope to one day be able to focus on my own research, but first I will look to finish my college education after I return from my mission.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised in the church and have went to many youth activities. However I stay in the church because of one key moment in my life that I will always remember. When I was fourteen, I was curious about the church, and wanted to know for myself if it was true. While I had been going to these youth activities ever since I could remember, I had never really gained my own testimony. However one night, I knelt down and prayed to my Heavenly Father to know if the Book of Mormon was true, and with it the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Once this words were out of my mouth, I just felt peace, a burning in my heart, and just knew that this church was true.

How I live my faith

I am currently serving mission and am dedicating two years of my life to only serving the Lord. I also live my faith by doing the small and simple things. I study my scriptures, say my prayers, and attend my church meetings. I just try to live in such a way that I am the best person that I can be, no matter where I am, when it is, or who I am with.
