Hi I'm David Austin Shong

I grew up in the Midwest and the Pacific Northwest. I live a busy active lifestyle and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am an 18 year old who will be attending college after I return from my mission. I plan to study economics and linguistics and hope to attain a MBA some day. Currently I am a cook at a local pizza resturant where I've realized my joy of cooking. During my free time I like to partake in various outdoor activities including slacklining, mountain biking, cliff jumping, hiking, camping, and running. I also enjoy just hanging out with friends, watching movies, and reading. In high school I played goalkeeper on my soccer team, ran distance in track and did high jump and long jump.

Why I am a Mormon

At first I attended church because it was the church that my parents took me to since I ws little. It wasn't until I was more independent and a little more mature that I decided for my self that this is the true restored church of Jesus Christ. My story of gaining beleif in the truthfulness of this gospel was not one of great miracles, but rather one of small simple truths being revealed to me. I read the Book of Mormon with the question in my heart of if it was true. I prayed to my Father in heaven in the name of Jesus Christ and asked if these things were true. I felt peace and comfort and knew in my heart that it must be true. As I read the scriptures or pray or attend church I have these great feelings of knowing it is true. People have always told me it is the true gospel and it is great they believe that but it had no merit to my testimony of its truthfulness until I had these feelings for myself. At first the feelings are small and hard to recognize. I wasn't quite sure if it was the spirit, but as time goes on and I continue to ask and hope with a real intent to know if its true they grow stronger and become undeniable. I continue to read and pray and listen for the prompting of the Holy Spirit and it guides me throughout my life and leads me to answers to questions I have. I know that this is the true restored church that Jesus established on the earth and that through the spirit anyone can find answers to questions they have if they truly want to know for themselves

How I live my faith

I live my faith throughout my everyday actions. I pray and read from the scriptures so that I can have the constant companionship of the spirit which guides me throughout my day. Working in a kitchen people don't watch the language they use, but I refrain from using any profanities. Because of the way I conduct myself people have come to the conclusion I am LDS with me telling them. I think they know this not only because I don't swear or drink alcohol or coffee, but because I always have a happy and positive outlook because I know that even if I face difficulties that they are only temporary and miniscule in comparison to the eternal happiness we can have. Another major way I live my faith is my commitment to be a servant for the Lord by serving a mission to Finland. I have been assigned to teach the people of Helsinki Finalnd from December 2013 to December 2015. I greatly look forward to this experience to show others the joy they can choose to have that I feel.
