Hi I'm Mavin

I am a Husband, a Father, a Grandfather, an Engineer, and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served a two year mission in Australia. My great-grandfather, a convert to the Church in Australia, was an immigrant to the USA and started his family in northern Arizona. I earned a BS degree and a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering from Arizona State University. I designed systems for testing Integrated Circuits while working at Motorola for 35 years and was granted 28 patents during that time. I also, with a great friend and partner, started our own successful engineering company, to produce equipment for tracking animals, that grew over 36 years to more than 100 employees. I have a wife, Linda, whom I love very much, two sons that we are proud of and two terrific grandchildren. The most important thing about me though is that I am a dedicated Mormon, a disciple of Christ.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been an avid student of the scriptures for more that 60 years now and it is my hobby and passion to study the doctrines of Christ. I have a vast library of books on church doctrines, Mormon doctrines as well as books of other faiths. I know that God lives, and that His Son, Jesus Christ lives. I know that Jesus Christ, the God that created the heavens and the earth, came down from the heavens, took upon Him flesh, that His Spirit was united with the body provided by the virgin Mary. I know that the Man Christ Jesus went about doing good, died on the cross and atoned for the sins of all mankind. I know that the Spirit of Christ left the body and spent three days in paradise, as He promised the thief on the cross next to Him. After which His Spirit was reunited with His body that lay in the tomb, and His body was changed from mortal to immortal, from corruptible to incorruptible. I believe Christ when He said, in His resurrected body, “Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.” (Luke 24:39) I believe Christ when He said “I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore,.” (Rev 1:18, James 2:26) Because Christ lives and has a glorified immortal body of flesh and bones, I can have a hope of a body “fashioned like unto his glorious body.” (Philippians 3:21) Some say that Mormons are not Christians because we do not believe in the Trinity, that God and Christ is a spirit without body, parts or passions, but that is OK, I forgive them. Because I know that our Lord Jesus Christ has a resurrected body and passions, because He loves us. Christ commanded us to “love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.” (John 13:34-35) I prefer the scripture definition of who is a Christian, “And the disciples were called Christians.” (Acts 11:26)

How I live my faith

Christ, when He was on the earth was baptized, and went about doing good, serving others, and He said “Come follow me”. Christ set the example and I try to follow. I have been baptized, and I attend church every Sunday to partake of the Sacrament to take upon me the name of Christ and covenant to remember Him and keep his commandments. I show my love of God and Christ by loving and serving others. I have had many callings in the Church as opportunities to serve. Most of all I enjoy teaching, the Gospel doctrine class, the Elders Quorum or as I am now a High Priest, teaching the High Priest group. I hope that all men know that I am a disciple of Christ (a Christian) because of the love I show for those around me.

What do Mormons believe about Jesus Christ? Do Mormons believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God?

Mavin
We believe that Jesus Christ is the Almighty, the First and the Last, Alpha and Omega, the LORD of LORDS, the Son of Man, Creator, Savior and Redeemer. Christ came down from heaven to take upon flesh and died on the cross to Atone for the sins of all mankind, He rose from the dead that all men can be resurrected to stand before Christ be judged. We believe that there is none other name under heaven given among men, but the name Jesus Christ, whereby we must be saved. We believe the Jesus Christ is the Firstborn Spirit Son of God (Col. 1:15) and that He is the Only Begotten Son of God in the flesh (John 3:16, Heb. 12:9, Rom. 8:16). We believe that Christ is the second member of the Godhead and that the "Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are one God, infinite and eternal, without end. Amen." (D&C 20:28) Show more Show less
