Hi I'm Eckart

I grew up in Germany, moved to this country in 1983 and have since been living in Michigan and Arizona. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a semi-retired University Professor of Music and happily married to my colleague and musician wife. We don’t have children but love to be around the members of the younger and youngest generations, sharing our life experiences and memories of traveling, visiting other countries, performing or just visiting foreign places. Our hobbies are reading, browsing through our library of many old books, manuscripts and early printed editions, tending to our collection of old musical instruments, gardening, creating a spiritual environment for ourselves and our many visitors. We love to be surrounded by beautiful things, including glass and European art works, Japanese dolls, plants, our dogs…

Why I am a Mormon

For the longest time I had been looking for a church that could answer my questions concerning the purpose of life, eternal companionship and spiritual fulfillment. A very late convert, I found this church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, through my wife whose near-fatal car accident early in our marriage was the turning point in all matters of my belief. I found my questions – maybe not all of them, but the most significant ones – being answered. In the aftermath of this accident I witnessed love, pure love and completely unselfish concern towards both of us among the members of the Provo ward my wife belonged to at that time. And the first time in my life I heard – and listened – to the voice of the Holy Ghost that told me very clearly what my tasks and duties had to be…

How I live my faith

Mormonism is not a Sunday-only commitment. It is a style of life that permeates our daily routine, the way we deal with other people, the manner we eat, dress and behave. It is the Church of Jesus Christ and a church whose members are committed to live the Gospel and the Commandments. With its social, educational and welfare programs and with its outreach projects the Church has set standards for a spiritual environment that supports and helps its members and even non-members exceedingly well. I love my callings as a home teacher and as a second counselor in our ward, the latter being a calling that came as a total surprise to me and which is carrying many responsibilities and duties. But I know that each Church calling is a calling from God, extended through the appropriate body within the Church organization. The Lord in His infinite wisdom and love reaches out to each of us, helping us to grow spiritually.
