Hi I'm Darla.

I'm an educational pioneer, student, wife, and mother. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a full time graduate student in the Secondary Education Program for English. I love technical theatre and hold a BA is Scenic Design and English. I was married in 2009 and had my first child in February of 2012. I can knit and sew, but most of all I love to create things from strange materials.

Why I am a Mormon

I first learned about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 2004 from two missionaries who knocked on my door. My parents, being of other faiths, were hesitant about me becoming a member. They wanted me to know for sure that joining was the thing for me. After a year and half, when I turned 16 and my mother had taken the discussions with me, I was allowed to get baptized. I became a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints because I felt that something was missing in all the other churches that I found here. I found prophets and apostles who guide and direct this church. I look forward each April and October to hear the words that these prophets and apostles have been guided to speak. I also found a church that separates the Godhead. This was a concept that I struggled with, for I believed that God and Jesus Christ were two separate and distinct beings, however no other church I found proved this, except The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I was looking for a church that resembled that of the church in Jesus Christ's time, and this is the church I found. I am grateful for the Gospel in my life. I know that my Heavenly Father loves me and that he wants me to return to him again. I know that Jesus Christ suffered, died and was resurrected to make this blessing possible. I know that Thomas S. Monson is the prophet on the Earth today, and what he says is inspired of the Lord. I know that the Holy Spirit protects, and guides me everyday in my life. I know that my husband and I are married (sealed) for time and all eternity, and that our family is an eternal one. I am grateful for temples and the blessings that are found within their walls. I know my Savior lives.

How I live my faith

My husband and I had been called to teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the children ages 11-12 in our ward. We attend the temple regularly once a month to help ancestors receive the blessings of the Gospel in all its forms. We both hold current temple recommends and strive to live the commandments. I dress modestly which helps me keep the Holy Spirit with me at all time. I read the scriptures and pray daily for inspiration that can help in my life. As a teacher, I have the ability to act and impress upon students that I teach the importance of education, of personal growth and responsibility. I help my students grow individually as they develop who they are. I strive to live the following values in my life: faith, divine nature, individual worth, choice and accountability, good works, integrity and virtue. I know by following these values, I become a better, well rounded person who is happy with themselves and others around them.
