Hi I'm Brian

I am a meteorologist, a student, and a Mormon.

About Me

I am a student studying Atmospheric Science. I recently had the opportunity to participate in NASA's Student Airborne Research Program where I studied how weather influences air pollution. Weather fascinates me and I want to understand and explain how it changes. I also enjoy playing sports with friends, spending time outdoors, and being with my family. I can't stay away from the mountains: in the summer I go hiking and in the winter I go skiing.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in a home where the gospel of Jesus Christ was taught. The example and guidance from my parents caused me to want to develop my own faith in Christ. When I was eight years old I was baptized in His name. Over the years I’ve had many opportunities to follow Christ’s example by serving other people in and out of the church. I am a Mormon because I feel the peaceful influence of His spirit when I live according to the teaching of Jesus Christ. The times I follow His example is when I most feel His hand guiding me in my life. His plan for me brings me happiness and joy as I continue to follow in his footsteps. I know Jesus Christ suffered for my sins and pains so that I can repent and turn to him for comfort. I also know that Christ was resurrected, and one day I will also be resurrected and be able to live happily with my family forever in the presence of God.

How I live my faith

During my busy school day, I take time to study the scriptures on my own and with others. Each semester I take an institute class at the university that focuses on the teachings of Jesus Christ in the Book of Mormon and Bible. I try my best to follow Christ by following the example he set and do the things he would do. My personal relationship with Jesus Christ has grown through prayer. When I pray I have a conversation with God. I'm confident He hears my prayers because I receive answers to questions I have and feel guided to make certain decisions in life. God knows our desires and he opens the doors to help us achieve our goals if we work hard to accomplish them On Sundays I attend my church meetings. Sometimes I am asked to teach Sunday School. I love teaching Sunday School because I get to lead a discussion about how others live a Christ-like life. My testimony of our Savior has grown as I read the scriptures, pray to my Father in Heaven, and attend church.

Why is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints called Mormons or Mormonism?

Brian
Many people call the church the "Mormon" church because, unlike other Christian denominations, we believe the Book of Mormon is written by ancient prophets just like the Bible. The Book of Mormon is similar to the Bible because it is written for us and teaches the gospel of Jesus Christ and witnesses his name. I believe the Church of Jesus Christ is the church Christ himself organized to administer his sacred covenants, such as baptism, which are essential to returning to live with God after our lives on earth.
