Hi I'm Kim.

I live in sunny Arizona and have been married 27 years. I'm the mother of two. I'm an elementary school teacher. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I teach second grade to children learning English as a second language at a school in central Phoenix. I've been teaching either kindergarten, first, second, or third grade for the past 26 years. What fun! l love to travel, read, relax at home, experience new things, and spend time with family and friends. Good music and lush green foilage make me happy. I love meeting and getting to know people from foreign countries and learning of and participating in their customs and cultures. I speak Spanish and spent a year living in Guadalajara, Mexico as a teenager. Favorite experiences of mine include visiting Niagara Falls, hiking in a rain forest, and snorkeling in Hanauma Bay. I don't know why anyone would ever want to visit Disneyland when nature provides such amazing beauty and grace. I'm the mother of two happily married children and the grandmother of two young black lab pups. Though I love the puppies, I'm very much looking forward to the day when I will be the grandmother of actual human beings.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the LDS faith. My parents were stalwart members of the church and as a child I attended worship services with them and my four brothers each and every Sunday. I watched my parents live the gospel of Jesus Christ and it was evident to me that they loved their Lord and Savior. On a daily basis, I saw them treat people with kindness, go out of their way to serve and help others, and do their best to keep the commandments of God. I felt an abundance of love and security as a child; and at a young age, I came to know personally that my Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ live and that they know and love me. I have a strong desire for others to feel of their own worth as children of God and to have the opportunity to bask in the awesomeness of the love that I have felt. As an adult, I've faced some hard and difficult times. It is my knowledge of my Savior's love for me, as demonstrated through his atoning sacrifice, that brings me peace and comfort, gives me the courage and strentgh to persevere, and brings clarity and purpose to my life.

How I live my faith

I currently work with children ages 18 months - 12 years old in my ward (church group). At last count there were 109 of them. Wow! Each week my goal is to teach these precious children of God a gospel principle, to help them feel of the love their Heavenly Father has for them, and to hopefully have some fun along the way. I feel it is important to give young children opportunities to actively participate in their learning and also provide them with experiences in which they can apply the principles being taught. For example, this past Sunday we learned that obeying the Word of Wisdom will help us keep our bodies clean and pure. I brought in a plant, a water bottle, and a can of soda. I explained to the children that my goal was to have a beautiful, green, leafy, strong, and healthy plant and then asked them whether I should nourish my plant with water or soda. We likened the plant to our bodies and then, using the scriptures, discussed what foods and substances the Lord has told us are good for and not good for our bodies. I love the children I work with at church and consider them to be a great blessing in my life!
