Hi I'm Erik Alcala

I'm a Husband and a father of two boys. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the youngest of four boys. I grew up in Mexico until my family moved to the state of Indiana at the age of nine. I love reading Fantasy novels and my wife recently has introduced me to Young Adult novels. As far as hobbies I like writing my own stories and I like to play Role Playing games with friends when my wife lets me. I served a two year mission for the LDS church in Southern Spain. And I have served in many different callings in church including councilor in Elders quorum and my Spanish branch presidency. I currently co teach with my wife Sunday School to a small group of Young Single Adults. I have two boys who love anything to do with trains.

Why I am a Mormon

My father is the type of person who opens the door to anyone if they have a message from Jesus Christ. It was with that attitude that allowed my parents to meet some Spanish speaking missionaries about three years before I was born. I grew up in the church with my three older brothers going to primary, Boy Scouts and Seminary. Growing up I had an understanding of the blessings we had from being part of the LDS church but I took it for granted. By the time I got into high school my brothers had graduated already and I was the only Mormon in school. I guess you can say I strayed a bit from the flock but I always kept my eyes towards my beliefs. When I started seeing some of my non-member friends suffer consequences for their bad behavior I realized the power of the gospel for good in my life. I decided to live the Gospel fully and I experienced the cleansing power of Jesus Christ's Atonement as I repented of my sins. It was then that I gained a sure knowledge of my Savior as I felt the weight of sin lifted. I realized that the Gospel is like a safety net, if you live it it will protect you from danger. By abstaining from harmful substances you avoid their debilitating effects. By choosing to live a morally clean life you avoid a life of regret and if only's. The price for a little fun is to high to pay as a youth.

How I live my faith

I'm currently Co-teaching a Sunday School class with my wife to a group of young single adults. I co-teach my two sons too but i'm afraid that is more of a full time thing. The single adults we teach are lots of fun because it makes me feel like i'm still young.
