Hi I'm Jim

I grew up in Bellevue, WA. I have four great kids and a beautiful wife. I continue to live in the Seattle area. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

So many people comment on my gray hair, often wondering aloud if my wife and kids are my daughter and grandkids. I tell them that if they judge my age based on my eyebrows, rather than the top of my head, I appear to be much younger. I'm not all that old, not yet anyway, really! I'm a sales professional in the material handling industry. I enjoy fly-fishing, tying flies, and refereeing youth soccer matches. My wife and I are especially grateful for our four children who, through study, trial and effort, have built their lives on sure foundations, and a commitment to their beliefs, faith, and love of God. That really matters a lot to me.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon by choice. While I grew up in the faith, my personal testimony in the faith was ignited during high school, and continued to grow through college and while serving a mission for the LDS church in Arizona. I am certain that Christ loves me and God answers prayers. I know His church was re-established on the earth, in its fullness, through a prophet, Joseph Smith. I love the gospel of Jesus Christ. I am not perfect in following it, but I strive to be better and more complete at living it as I struggle through this life. I am grateful for my understanding of His Plan of Happiness, and for my life on earth. I am confident that families, like mine, can be preserved and continue forever, even eternally. The complete gospel of Jesus Christ is found in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I count it a blessing to have this knowledge, and invite you to seek it out and find the faith and understanding I have gained by keeping commandments and entering into covenants with God.

How I live my faith

Serving others through callings and responsibilities within the church provides blessings and opportunities to share talents and grow personally. I have been afforded many opportunities to serve in the church throughout my life. Leadership and teaching skills have been developed through many church assignments. Working with the youth of the church has allowed me to understand how to better parent my own children at various times in their lives. Teaching youth and adults has allowed my personal study of the scriptures and the gospel to improve, and has provided strengthening testimony building for my students and me. Being instructed by, and participating in the administration of the church on a local level has increased my understanding of the church and its strength in helping solve real problems for members, and has allowed me to share testimony, ideas, and provide solutions to complex problems with great men and women who have desires to serve and lead through their own callings and opportunities. Serving in the church, while time consuming, provides the Lord another avenue to bless our lives, and participate in our service. He is mindful and participatory in the work performed in His church. I have felt His guidance and know He is active in our lives as we seek Him and follow His promptings.

How can I know Mormonism is true?

Jim
In order to know that the Church of Jesus Christ is on the earth and available to all humankind requires the one seeking to have a sincere desire to find out, first and foremost. A desire to find and participate in the Lord's true church requires faith in Him and an expectation that He loves us and wants us to live His gospel plan and follow His commandments. To know that such a church exists, and which church among the hundreds that exist on the earth today, places a significant amount of responsibility on the seeker to develop a relationship, through prayer and study, with God and His Son. If you will pray, with real intent and an expectation that God will answer your prayer, I believe you will receive the answer to this question by simply inquiring of Him. The answer will come to your mind and your heart as you learn His gospel, ask intently, and with faith await His response. He wants you to know for yourself. He loves you and wants what is best for you. Answering your prayers is one way He can show you who He is and what He expects from you. The Church of Jesus Christ is available to you. I know that to be true. I have inquired. I have expressed desire to follow Him. He responds. He has a plan for you, and it can be found in His church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
