Hi I'm Michael

I'm a graphic designer, a progressive liberal, I run an online music magazine with my wife and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Centennial, Colorado where I spent much of my misfit years in high school in a dark, lost world. I grew to love art and the creation of original work helped me cope with many of my fears and anxieties I experienced in day to day life. My artwork is often dark, many compare it to Tim Burton, and most of it relates to my dreams and nightmares. I also grew up with a huge passion for music, heavy rock music, the more electronic and industrial, the better. The high energy electrified me and still does to this day. I suppose much of it comes from growing up with ADHD. But music was one of the major factors that drove my artwork. Much of my inspiration comes from album art and cover art in general. I've always dreamed of working with musicians and bands and now I have that chance. My wife and I started up an online music magazine called Monster-in-a-Box in 2010 where we can explore our passion and love for music with all the bands we grew up listening to. I design and code the entire website while she does all the writing and scheduling of interviews and other content being put up on the website. We both recently graduated from college in 2011 and decided to move to Seattle, Washington to get away from the dry heat in Colorado. I love the rain and the overcast sky, the lush vegetation and beautiful scenery. We knew absolutely no one going there but we are slowly gaining friendships, finding new and exciting things to do and explore. I love the life we live.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm Mormon because I believe that families can be together forever. I believe that God gave us that gift and I know he loves each and every one of his children here on earth no matter who they are. I believe in eternal companionship and the power of a temple ceiling that will keep me and my spouse together no matter what. The family is the most important aspect of humanity and the Mormon church emphasizes this truth. I also believe that revelation didn't just stop long ago, I believe in modern day revelation, including the teachings of Joseph Smith, The Book of Mormon and the teachings of revelation from modern day prophets such as Thomas S. Monson. I believe that Jesus Christ is central to this church because he was God's chosen son and just an amazing being in every sense. Though I grew up in the church, I didn't always think this way. I believe that each and every one of us has to go through a point of conversion at some point in our lives whether we were born a member or not. It's taken a while to fully convert me to the church. I don't think I really began conceiving it until I reached high school and by the time I reached college, it all made sense. But just because I've been converted doesn't mean I know it all. That's one of the reasons I love the church, there's always opportunities to grow and to learn knew things through personal revelation and modern day revelation from our current prophets and councils.

How I live my faith

My wife and I get to teach the young 4 and 5-year-olds at church. We don't yet have a child of our own but we hope to have some soon. We attend church every week to get inspired by the spirit and teach those young rascals about the gospel.
