Hi I'm Mike.

Except for falling off a mountain once, I am a pretty normal guy. Husband, dad, grandad and a follower of Jesus Christ.

About Me

Curious. Never stop learning. Try new things. Hold on to the truth. Work hard. Help others. I did not have a lot as a kid, so I read, did any job I could do, and took every possible class I could take in high school. Guess I did the same in college. Found God and my better half on the way to a PhD. Now it is 5 children and 8 grandchildren later. Still read a lot, finally retiring from work, but the most important thing is family. We live next door to my son. I take great joy in watching he and his wife raise our granddaughter. We have a little bit of heaven here. A quiet place in the country surrounded by wildlife.

Why I am a Mormon

When my parents divorced, there was a big hole in our lives. My mom's friend was a Mormon and had the missionaries come visit us. My sister and I were the first to join from our family. I was ten and she was 13. The Church helped fill the hole that I felt in my life. The Church was filled with loving kind people that helped me see a better way. I especially appreciate my scoutmaster. Scout camp, canoe trips, hikes and spelunking were activities where important values in my life were taught and learned. When I was 18, I wanted to know from God if he was really there and if the direction I was taking in my life was the right one. I prepared for several weeks. My plan was climb a nearby mountain and commune with God to get answers to my prayers. I slipped and fell off the mountain dropping 180 feet over two cliffs. I ended up in the hospital. I found God there. My prayers were answered in a very direct and indelible way. My body healed and I was able to go on with my life with new resolve and inspired direction.

How I live my faith

I try to understand who God is and what he wants from me. I try to show my love for God by obeying the commandments and finding ways to serve my family, my church, my community and anyone I meet day to day. Sometime I let God guide my service. Often in my prayers in the morning. I ask God to help me prioritize my life and to see where I can best serve Him that day. God has answered my prayers. It is humbling to hear God's voice and to be able to be God's hands. Often my prayers in the evening are a deep gratitude and awe to be able to share with God in his work. Forty some years ago I served as a full time missionary for two years in Argentina. Now I am serving another full-time mission with my wife in Barcelona, Spain.
