Hi I'm Dustin

I grew up in WA, served in Chile, fell in love in HI. I'm a husband, a father & I'm a Mormon

About Me

I'm still trying to figure out the manual on how to be a husband and father, so far I'm kind of just making things up as I go. So far I don't think there's been any permanent damage. Nothing has been as challenging or rewarding in my life as fulfilling these two roles. Although I sometimes come across as quite and reserved, I'm really just a kid at heart. I like trivia, reading books and playing video games with my friends. I enjoy traveling with my wife and blogging about our adventures together. But the absolute high lite of my day is coming home to play with my two kids and getting involved in their worlds. I'm also a self proclaimed sports enthusiast, restaurant maven and social networking guru. I want to get the most out of my life and enjoy what I can with my family and friends. When I'm not trying to be model husband or superhero father, I work as an Indirect Account Manager for a large cellular company. Just like any job, mine has it's ups and downs and the stress that comes with it. It can be a challenge, working in a field that's always changing and evolving. But I love to learn and being at the technology forefront can be very exciting. I work hard to provide for my family and give them all that they deserve.

Why I am a Mormon

I choose to live this life because I know it's true and it's the best thing I can do for myself and my family. I know I'm child of God, and there isn't anything more important to me than simply knowing that. Just like I'm a father who cares and loves my children and wants nothing but the best for them, I know my Heavenly Father wants the same for me. Just as I work hard for my family, I know He's looking out for me and has done wonderful things for me in my life and He will continue to do so as long as I continue to do what He asks of me. I know that by trying to live the gospel of Jesus Christ will make me a better person and will be a source of help for me through out my life. The gospel to me is like sunshine through a window. Not only does that sunshine make me feel warm & good, but as I get closer to the light it also allows me to see things clearer. It allows me to gain perspective and give meaning to what's out there. In times of difficulty and uncertainty, that light helps me overcome and carry on. I know that families are special and can be eternal through Heavenly Father's plan. There's nothing I want more than to be a family forever, living in the presence of God. This is our goal. And no matter what hardships or challenges we must overcome to achieve this goal, it's worth it. I know that all of this is possible because of the atonement of Jesus Christ. I know Jesus is our brother & our Savior. He loves us more than any of us can begin to imagine. Not only did He give us a perfect example to follow, but through his sacrifice He provided a way for us to repent and undue those wrong choices that we would inevitably make. I know that what He did, He did for all of us. He gives everyone a chance to receive so much if we just have faith in Him. You don't have to be perfect, you just have to have that faith and put it into action. You have to keep trying to be a little better every day. It's by those small and simple steps that great things will happen.

How I live my faith

For me living my faith means trying to keep things in perspective and do all the small and simple things. Something I'm always praying for is "to help me learn to love to do what is right." I struggle just like everyone else does but in the end I don't think it's as important where we are but where we're going. I come from a very active family that loves to get involved in the community and help out. In the last year or so my parents started helping out an orphanage in Kenya. What started out as a semi-retirement project for my parents turned into an opportunity for my whole family to get involved in something really special. All my siblings have had our hands in this project, in one way or another, and I look forward to passing this work on to my kids someday. We realize that we've been given so much in our life and we want to use what we have to help out some of God's children who could desperately use it. It's a daunting and incredible work and I'm blessed to be a small part in it. I currently serve as an Executive Secretary in my local church, which means I go to a lot of meetings and ask people to do a lot of things. I like being the behind the scenes guy who helps move the work along. I like orchestrating meetings and activities and seeing ideas and initiatives come to realization. I'll admit sometimes its a roller coaster but in the end it's always worth it. I've done a lot of different things over the years in the church but I must say I enjoy most teaching, speaking and working with children and youth. The youth of the church are amazing. I always feel so humbled to be with them. I always walk away feeling like I learned more from them then they did from me. I can't wait to see the impact they'll have on the world.
