Hi I'm Doug Dickson

I grew up in Washington. My wife and I own an insurance agency. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in the pacific northwest as a member of a Mormon family. As a young man I enjoyed being involved with Boy Scouts and obtained the rank of Eagle Scout. In scouting I learned to appreciate the wonders of nature and the world in which we live. I married the girl of my dreams and was fortunate to have her by my side as I attended and graduated from college. We have a great family with four sons all of whom are married and we currently have eight grandchildren living throuhout the western United States. We have a small property and casualty insurance office in the town where we both grew up. My time is filled today working to provide for our needs, visits to our children and their families, serving others in our community and striving to live a Christ like life.

Why I am a Mormon

Although I was raised in the Mormon Church I had to find out for myself regarding the truthfulness of its teachings. It was not enough to have been taught its principles from my yourth. The knowledge of its truthfulness came after much reading, studying, prayer and then applying the principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ in my life. I believe I have become a better son, a better husband, a better father and a better disciple of Jesus Christ by applying the principles of the gospel to the best of my ability in my everyday life. I found the ulimate confirmation of the gospel of Jesus Christ came to me through serving those around me. It is in living the gospel that I have found a joy and inter-peace within myself that has helped me become who I am. I know that God lives, that his Only Beggotten Son Jesus Christ is My Savior and My Redeemer, it is He who took upon himself my sins that I might be made pure before the Father. I know that the Holy Ghost is real, he provides direction and revelation in my life that I might know truth. I know that God has had prophets in the past to guide His children and I know just as assuredly that God has a prophet on the earth today who recieves revelation the same as prophets of old in order to lead and to guide those who choose to listen and to apply those teachings in their lives. I know that the Bible is the word of God to the world and that God has provided additional scriptures. The Book of Mormon is another wittness that confirms the truthfulness of the Bible and the divinity of Jesus Christs and that by applying the principles taught in the Bible and the Book of Mormon I have become a better person.

How I live my faith

I have had the opportunity to spend numerous hours in serving. As a young man I served in Europe taking the word of Christ and the restored gospel to those seeking to find Him. I have had an opportunity to work with numerous groups of young men in the scouting program, helping them to gain an appreciation of God's eternal creations. Throughout my adult life it has been my oppotunity to visit the homes of members and non-members alike, seeking out opportunities to provide support in their times of need and friendship in the times of their joy. It has been my opportunity to serve as a lay leader of 400 members of The Church of Jesus Christ, to comfort and to counsel the young and the aged, all those in need. To provide food and shelter and a friendly hand. I have had the opportunity to work with men and woman as we have sought out and found the the broken hearted, those seeking to find Christ and the lost sheep of the fold. I have been grateful for each opportunity which I have been given for it is through service to others that I feel that I have grown closer to Jesus Christ.

Who was Joseph Smith?

Doug Dickson
Joseph Smith Jr. was a person like you and I. His parents loved him and taught him to read and to love the Bible and its teachings. His family was divided as to their religious beliefs and as a youth he attended various religious services seeking to find the truth regarding religion, however he could not find it in the religions of his day. As he studied the Bible he read in James 1:5-6 an invitation from God to all of His children "If any of you lack wisdon, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering...." Joseph wanted to know the truth, he believed that God would answer his prayer and that God knew which religion was true. As a 14 year old youth Joseph in fervent prayer and with great faith asked to know what Church was God's true Church. In response Joseph recieved a marvellous heavenly vision as God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ appeared to him and answered saying "...I must join none of them, for they were all wrong...." Joseph Smith 1:19. God prepared Joseph from this early age to become His prophet the same as Abraham, Isaac and Moses. Through Joseph God would restore many of the plain and simple truths of the gopel that had been lost during the time of the world's history when God's prophets could not be found on the earth. Joseph was a man who had faith, believed that God could and would answer prayers and then obediently did what God had commanded him. Show more Show less
