Hi I'm Denise

I'm a wife, a nanny, a massage therapist and I'm Mormon.

About Me

My husband and I were married in February of 2011. Right now our family consists of just the two of us, and our dog Odin. We rescued him from the pound in 2010, he only has three legs but he has the energy of any other dog. I work as a nanny and I am going to school to become a Licensed Massage Practictioner, so my days are pretty busy and I love any time I get to spend at home with my husband and dog. On our weekends we usually watch sports together and play video games on our XBOX, and when the weather is decent we will take Odin to the dog park. I love to play piano and recently I learned Caligraphy. I also am a purple belt in Taekwondo.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents divorced when I was 13. For years before that, it was rough because my brothers and sister and I knew they were not happy. I was baptized into the church when I was 8, but we didn't go a lot because there was so much going on in the family. I ended up fighting a lot with my mom when sundays came, and eventually I just stopped going. For years I searched for a church that I thought would fit my life better, but I never found it. They were always missing something, so I decided that I would not go to any of them. I moved out into my own apartment fresh out of high school and I lived the way I wanted to live. By the time I was 21, I was lost and confused and I was just coping with life the only ways I knew how. That summer I went to three funerals, for a long time family friend and my two grandfathers. They all passed away within a month of each other. I grieved for about six months when an old friend saw I needed help and invited me to come stay with his family for a weekend. They took me to the Mormon church, and I don't believe it was chance that in church that day they talked about God's plan for us when we leave this life. I was so overwhelmed as I realized that I was throwing my life away and that I would be with my family again someday. I met with some missionaries and I learned the amazing truth of the gospel. It has saved my life. I am Mormon because this gospel filled that empty void I had been searching for in other churches for 8 years. This gospel gave me a purpose to my life, and continues to give me a reason to go on living and to try my best to live like our savior, Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

I live my faith every day, one step at a time. Somedays it's easier than others. When I was 18 I was diagnosed with a severe anxiety disorder. Years later, when I was 22, it worsened to the point where I then had to be hospitalized for a few weeks. The members of the church were my support group during this time, and they were amazing support. Without me even asking they brought me food, cards, gifts, and just sat there and visited with me. Once I was healthy enough I made it my goal to do the same for others as best as I can. I volunteer whenever I can wherever its needed, because I know that the people I do this for need the support as much as I did back then. I have been truly blessed by the amazing people I have met along the way by simply going to the food bank or helping at church events to get people together. I love that in the church there are so many opportunities to help even if it it just bringing a dinner over to a neighbor. Such simple acts remind me why I do this and how it affects lives for the better.
