Hi I'm David

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I've worked for a biotech company for many years, in the chemistry group, and as a safety officer of the company. My wife and I have four children; all are out of high school and have jobs or going to college. Our oldest is in the Army and been the Middle East wars 3 times now. He was injured but still able to do his job there. We always have great fears of what could happen to him. My faith in Heavenly Father helps me and my family feel he has some extra watching out for in the war zone. So prayers are given each day for him. My wife is a wonderful person who enjoys spinning wool and cotton. I enjoy trying to grow a vegetable garden each year, but seem to grow weeds better than vegetables. It is fun to see a seed grow into something you can eat and enjoy. Being outside to enjoy the yard or to take walks in the mountains or the many national and state parks is always a joy to me. Everything on this earth is a witness that there is a God and he cares about me.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was growing up as a kid that was really tall, over 6.5 feet in High school, which let me tell you is not the most easygoing thing in the world at times. I really wanted to know why are we here on earth? As I thought about it, I learned that we are here to learn, grow, and love others to become the best that we can be. I remember when 9/11 happened, and I could see how many across the nation stopped, and to took time to help others in need. I felt so good to see, that love and care for others, because that's what I see in the gospel, is love and family, people that care about us, the way that Heavenly Father does. I think of it as the way my family loves me, and when they held me when I was hurt, or when i felt like i needed to know that others cared about me, When i needed help, they were there for me each time, and i see that when i pray to heavenly father. When i pray i know that its my father in heaven that loves and cares for me and wants me to be happy, and he has given me the gospel so that i can learn how to become a better person, and to become more loving like Christ did when he was on the earth. and as i do that which is good, i feel a greater care for others, and i feel a great purpose in my life, because i have a loving family and Heavenly Father.

How I live my faith

The great thing about each day, is that i get to pray with my family and to go out and serve others each day. Not, just in a job or for scouting, but as a son of God which lets me help others, in need all the time. I also love to help others, and by learning from the scriptures and the councils of the Prophets. This has been a great help in keeping me safe from many things like drugs, alcohol, and things that can hurt me. When I see how the gospel has helped me, I am happy because I can see that many of life hardships are not affecting me as much. Because of what I am doing, which is choosing the right each day, my life has been blessed.

Why don’t Mormons drink coffee, tea, or alcohol? What is the Mormon Church’s law of health and proper diet?

As a teenager I would work with my father on the Canal Company, in the spring we would clean and burn the canals from weeds. One hot day I was asked to drive the truck pulling the water tank to put out fires if needed. In side the truck was a case of beer. Setting by it all day, some of the coworkers would ask for a drink. I'd say no it's not mine. One of the boss's said we could have it because my Dad would not like it. Someone said just give him one too. Then he said 'there is not enough of us here to even try to hold him down and pour it in his mouth. My dad had with out being there, given a great lesson to me.A person can live with out drinking and enjoy life and many will see it. To follow my father and not drink alcohol, smoke, do illegal drugs and not drink coffee or tea. This was a great lesson to me, and I saw in his life his mind was always clear, he was able to work hard long days, most his life. But most important is he had a great spirit about him, because he followed the will of the Lord. In my work there are times beer or wine are served at meeting or parties, it did take long before there would always be soft drinks there too. I know this law of heath, called the word of wisdom, has many blessing, and I see them in my life and in others. In some ways it's a small thing to help keep my mind more open to understanding the spirit of God. Show more Show less

How can we stop the spread and influence of pornography?

One of the hardest things on this earth, I feel, is pornography. As a man that wants to follow Jesus Christs example, I have to try to be the best I can be. By having in this time and age, the ability for all people to come into contact with pornography each day, by movies, books, T.V, makes protecting our family's from this even harder. Many times we come to just want to live with it, and say that it is OK, but I know it is not. I know from history, and many other places around the world, that when things happen, that affect family's and community's, people wanted to help protect each other by voicing what they know to be true. Just a example, in the scriptures, People were struggling with things that were happening in life, from being subject to pain/ sickness, to trying to believe in Christ freely. Many people, not just the great ones, but also the poor, came and voiced what they knew to be true from rulers like Joseph to a poor fisherman named Paul. I like many people want to be happy and safe from things that can hurt us and our familys. The one way I know to help stop the influence of pornography is to say no, and to have the desire to tell others. When the time comes in movies, books etc, voice what you know to be true, and don't view it. I know if you do these things will be better and life will be great, and following Jesus Christ will be easier. Show more Show less

What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

Like many people, I love to read. Trying to know how to be happy in life is something that is hard to do. The great thing is that we have the scriptures, and in them we are promised that if we read them each day we will have joy, and hope in our lives. When i was living in Utah, I was told to read for at least one hour a day, so we could be happy and have the spirit with us. Each day that I was reading, I could feel so much love and happiness in my life. When I got home a short time later i continued to read as long as I could, and during the hardest times of my life I still could feel the love from my Heavenly Father, and the peace that came from reading the scriptures. I know without the scriptures in my life I would not have the joy in my life that I have, and the love of reading the scriptures. In the Book of Mormon (2 Nephi 32:3) the scripture tell us what we will have in life if we read the scriptures, and the blessings that come with it. I know the scriptures are true, because through reading them and praying, I know the church to be true and it has blessed me every day.. Show more Show less
