Hi I'm Susan

I’m ordinary. I’m a grandma. I met my husband on the internet. I’m a Mormon.

About Me

I’m an average woman with no special training or talents. My family is my greatest accomplishment. I was a working mom and my children have turned out wonderful in spite of me. One married a Native American, one married a Hispanic and one married a “red neck”. I have ten grandchildren and two great-grand babies. Laughter is a gift and life is good. Jesus is my savior and because He is - I find joy in everything! I remarried after my husband died. We met on the internet (at our age) and have been happily married for over six years. I am fascinated with family history and I'm acquiring a great love for my ancestors as I find them and get to know them through their stories. I feel more confident knowing I descend from ancestors who worked hard, struggled, suffered, and overcame great obstacles. I am grateful they paved the way for my life. I am a “do-it-yourself” person by nature and necessity I've fixed my own toilet, built brick planters, laid shingles, grown and canned food and made clothes for my family. Retired I now have time to lie on the beach and read good books. I love nature in general and our four dogs. Choral music was my avenue to travel nine European countries singing for my supper, and to sing in Carnegie Hall. Our concerts were fund-raising events for choirs, churches and civic groups who in turn housed us. I met wonderful people staying in over 90 different homes. Singing with male voice choirs in Wales, Ireland and England was a thrill of a lifetime!

Why I am a Mormon

Born in California and raised in Utah I grew up in a Latter-day Saint family but I never really “got it” as a youth (the gospel I mean). I have been converted over and over again throughout my life as I learned, come to understand and built a relationship with my Heavenly Father. Our faith is based on love and functions on volunteerism. I accept assignments to do my part to serve the Lord by serving and helping others. I have worked in the nursery and with young children, the young adult organization, our woman's group, with senior single adults and cub scouts. My husband and I managed a humanitarian facility full time for one year. Serving in these assignments is one way of helping others and I have had much personal growth through these commitments. I also donate my time and energy to other humanitarian and volunteer activities. I have made my share of mistakes and I am eternally grateful to Christ for His gift of Grace and for the Atonement. It has been a fantastic journey which I am happy to know will continue on after this life with my family and others that I love.

How I live my faith

I believe in and strive to follow Christ by loving and serving Him first, and my neighbor second, as taught in Matthew 22:37-39. I believe The Golden Rule and the Ten Commandments are encompassed here. I love all people regardless of race or creed. I love and respect my neighbors and I am their friend and help them in any way I can. I look out especially for single moms and others who are struggling and give them hope, love and encouragement. I accept others for who they are and where they are in life without judgment and try to be a friend to all. Everybody needs help at one time or another and everyone needs friends, love, encouragement and hope. None of us is perfect; as members of the human family we are ALL striving to walk in the footsteps of Jesus and to become like Him. Jesus Christ is our greatest friend. He is hope. He is love. He is my Savior. I am a Mormon.
