Hi I'm Janet

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I attended 6 elementary, 2 junior high, and 2 high schools while growing up in 7 states--mostly the midwest, but also Idaho and California. I am the mother of three sons and a daughter ranging in age from 22 to 15. I have my Master's in Education, and have taught elementary school for 17 years. I now teach gifted children in my current district. I took time off to have and be with my children when they were young. During that time I also had a home daycare/preschool and cared for two foster children. We moved from California to Arizona 10 years ago for my husband's job. I have loved living in so many different places and meeting new people. I love to read. I usually read the end of the book first to see if it is interesting enough. I like traveling, architecture, art, sight seeing, museums and zoos. My most adventurous trip was to Europe when the Berlin wall was still up. But nothing beats hanging around with my kids, and being with them whenever possible.

Why I am a Mormon

I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints because it contains the truths and support I need to live a peaceful life and return to my Heavenly Father. When I was nearly four, the missionaries came to our house and taught my mother. They told her of our purpose on earth--that we came from the pre-existence and are here to gain a body and learn and be tested and then return to our Heavenly Father. They said after we die our body and spirit will be reunited and we will continue to live and progress, and can continue our same family relationships. They showed pictures of this process. I was so sure it was true and hoped my mother would believe this so we could go to this church. She was a strong member of another faith, but she did join. My father was already a member, so my parents, my older sisters and I began to go to church. I have been able to study and learn the scriptures and grow in understanding of how to live the commandments and live for blessings Heavenly Father gives. I have found truth, peace, friendship, and support in all aspects of my life. I know Christ lives and has atoned for all pain and heartache and loss, and we can be whole and joyful in spite of hardships.

How I live my faith

I try to live the commandments and be kind. I am trying to become a better person and raise my children by using the scriptures, family prayer and weekly family nights where we can discuss our activities and needs, and have a spiritual lesson and some fun. I attend church each week. I especially enjoy listening to fellow members share their knowledge of the gospel in Sacrament meeting, and discussing scriptures and gospel principals in Sunday School and our woman's meeting. I am assigned to visit other women each month to check on their needs and bring them a spiritual message. I also have women visit me and I love learning from their message. Our church uses the scouting program to support our boys in learning and growing in the gospel. I am currently the cub master and get to help carry out monthly pack meetings for the boys to get the awards they have earned. My boys are also involved in the scouting program at church and two are Eagle Scouts. I enjoy attending the temple where I can do ordinances for those who have passed on, but may have accepted the gospel and want their ordinances done. I try help others whenever I am able, and know that prayer always helps. I encourage and support my son who is currently serving a mission, and I try to live so others will know I love Christ and want to return to my Heavenly Father.
