Hi I'm Rachel

I am a college student and want to teach kindergarten. I believe laughter is the best medicine. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am in my junior year of college and have a busy schedule! While I was going to school last fall, I decided I wanted to travel to another country and make a difference. My friend found a great volunteer organization and we decided to earn the money and sign up to go. I worked during the week and on weekends, went to school, and volunteered at a safe house for children in my area. It was all very overwhelming, but I eventually earned enough money to travel to Cusco, Peru and had the most amazing experience of my life. I learned so much about hard work and achieving my goals. I will never forget the month I spent there with my friend. I learned about a whole new culture, met the most amazing people, and was able to volunteer in an incredible orphanage. I never thought I would be able to experience something so wonderful at such a young age, but I had great support from my friends and family. My family is the most important thing to me. We all have close relationships and love being around each other! Although we have our differences, my parents and siblings are my best friends. I have two nieces that I love to pieces, and they inspire me to want to be a teacher. I love the journey I have been through so far in my life, and look forward to the future with excitement and faith in all that I do!

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the Mormon church. My parents were active members when I was born, and I was brought up going to church every Sunday and was baptized when I was eight years old. I have always had a testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and had faith, but there were specific instances in my life when my testimony was strengthened. When I was 14 years old, I moved from Utah to Arizona. My family had to leave behind everything and everyone we loved. I had a difficult time leaving my best friends and extended family and the house that I grew up in. But when we moved here, we went to church our first Sunday and immediately had friends and people that reached out to us. That was the biggest blessing for me as a teenager scared to enter high school and start a new life. I felt the love and comfort of my Savior and Heavenly Father as I relied on prayer to help me begin a new chapter in my life. One year ago, my boyfriend chose to serve a mission for the church. I completely supported his decision to go and could not wait for him to experience living in another country and bringing the message of the Gospel to others. When the time came for him to leave, I had a hard time not having him in my everyday life. During those first few months, I once again learned to rely on my Savior and Heavenly Father for comfort and strength to get through such a difficult time. He has now been gone for a year and has one more year to go. He has changed the lives of so many people by bringing the message of the Gospel into their lives. Although I still miss him, I could not be happier for him because I know that other people in another country are going to have the same happiness I have in my life because of the Gospel. His decision to go on a mission has been a huge blessing in both of our lives. I believe that having trials in my life has led me to become closer to my Savior. I have such a strong testimony of the power of prayer because of the love I have felt in my life.

How I live my faith

I attend a Singles Ward with young single adults in my area. I have made incredible friendships by going to church and participating in activities. I visit girls in my ward and try to reach out to whoever I can. I have the wonderful calling of communicating with all the women in my ward and seeing if they have opportunities to reach out to one another. By doing this, we all become closer and have opportunities to get to know one another. I love attending church and different activities where I am surrounded by amazing people. I am also taking an institute class once a week where I learn more about the Gospel. I am taking a class that focuses on teachings of the living prophets, where I am able to increase my understanding and knowledge of the Gospel. Members and non-members can sign up for these classes to gain a better understanding of different principles and practices of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I feel so blessed to be surrounded by people that are so kind to me and make me want to be a better person!
