Hi I'm Shelby

I'm a mother and a grandma. I'm an elementary school secretary and the volunteer organizer for a dance company. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have been a stay home mom for the most part. We now only have one child at home who is in his last year at middle school. So we still are young. I went back to work just this last year to help with college tuition and fun dates with our grandson, not to mention it keeps my mind in top condition. I didn't stray too far though, just to the local elementary school as the data secretary. My husband and I have been doing some backyard remodeling, mainly a new shed so the old shed could be converted into a chicken coop. We are what you would call, residential farmers. We have a garden, and two rabbits as well. I love to walk. I tried the tread mill for a while, but nothing makes me feel better than to have the fresh air swirling around me as I walk outside. The tred mill is in the garage and is the usual hanging spot for things that don't have a designated home yet. I also love to bike. My kids and I did a 50 mile bicycle ride this last summer. My husbands idea of biking is his motorcycle. I am a big sci-fi fan, and my family laughs at me. I grew up with Star Trek the original series and was hooked at a young age with space related sci-fi movies and books. For our 25th anniversary, my husband took me to Florida to visit NASA. I loved it.

Why I am a Mormon

I love my family. I believe that we lived before this earth life with our Heavenly Father and Mother. I believe that our Heavenly Parents want the best for us, just as we want the best for our children. I believe families are the central unit here on earth and patterned after our pre-mortal family life. For us to learn and gain knowledge we must be taught, tested and put our knowledge into practice. That is why we are here on this earth at this time, to be taught, tested and put into practice the things we learn. During this time, it should and can be a time of joy and happiness. No parent wants their children to suffer or be in pain, but sometimes that is how we learn things. If we understand the plan, our attitude can change our outlook, even in the midst of trails and tragedy. I know that we live after this mortal life on earth, and I believe that we can live as families forever if we are faithful to the commandments and covenants we make. I know that we are blessed as we strive to live in righteousness. Our family is growing in number and my love for them increases daily. I believe that as I strive to be faithful and obedient, that I can live with my family forever. I know that this is the plan of our Heavenly Father.

How I live my faith

My belief is how I live. It is who I am. I am not just a Sunday church goer, but a 24 hour, 7 days a week member of the church and a believer in Jesus Christ. I try to live by the spirit. I actually rely on the influence of the holy spirit to guide me and protect me from the evils the world has to offer. I guess I would have to say that teaching in the church is one of my favorite assignments to have. I have taught all age groups, but I must say that teaching the youth is very rewarding. I
