Hi I'm John Lim

A Chinese speaking missionary in Washington DC from Renton, Washington. I LOVE gymnastics, I love being a brother. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the second of four children raised in a half Chinese/Filipino half American home. I started doing gymnastics when I was 3 years old. I loved watching my older sister do ballet but my dad didn't want me to be a dancer, so my mom compromised with gymnastics. I had the strongest desire to make the competitive team and move up in the mens artistic levels. Right when I turned 16 I had a job teaching boys the basics of the sport. It never was easy to fit workouts, practice, and teaching with school, but it taught me how to work hard and plan well, and has been ever so rewarding! The greatest instrument ever conceived is the cello! I played in the school orchestra all the way through high school and still like to practice and perform. I had a rough start to boy scouting, because my gymnastics conflicted with the meeting times, but my scout leaders pulled me in and I ended up earning my Eagle Scout rank. I try to learn everything I can and study hard so that I can better serve everyone around me. I plan on studying business at either PSU or BYU after the conclusion of my mission. My dream is to own my own gym someday. Most importantly I’m a brother and a son to my family. Every day I strive to serve them, love them, and to be a good example

Why I am a Mormon

Have you ever done something that you wish with all your heart you could undo? Have you ever wanted to improve something about yourself that you felt you just could not change on your own? Have you ever searched for something to just lift your spirit every moment of every day and inspire you to become your best self? The truth is that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and His gospel, have these practical uses. The Mormon church contains a restoration of the fullness of the very gospel that the man Jesus taught His disciples. I have learned from the Book of Mormon how to have faith in Christ, what I need to do to repent and become better, why I have to be baptized and how I can make it through to the end. I know that it is a true book. I know that Christ lives because He has helped me to change when I felt like it was just impossible. He has lifted me when I've fallen farther than I ever thought I could. He can't fully do that for us without His restored Church, this is His Church.

How I live my faith

My mission has been the hugest trial of my faith. About 6 months into the beginning of my mission I realized that I wasn't right with my Heavenly Father. It resulted in returning home from my beloved mission for at least 6 months. On my way home I was entirely depressed. But in faith, I turned to Heavenly Father in my time of greatest need. I poured out my heart to him in prayer, and then this feeling came into my heart that I cannot explain. I felt hope that things would be okay, I felt love for all the people that would judge me, and I felt determination to do anything it took to become a missionary again. I worked 5 months doing an entry level construction job to save up for the rest of my mission. By a miracle and the grace of God, I got to witness the sealing of my sister in the Temple. Then I was called to return to DC as a full-time missionary! Always choose to have faith rather than falter, the fruits are so sweet.
