Hi I'm Neil

I am a husband and father and I love my family. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the father of a two little girls and three little boys that are the joy of my life. Along with my wife, they bring real meaning to my life. I enjoy playing with them and teaching them. There is just something about family that nothing else can compete with. There are so many special times when my kids say things like "I love you Daddy" and "You make me smile." I wouldn't trade those things for the world. I am a civil engineer. I design water and wastewater systems for cities. I have always wanted to build things and I chose water and wastewater systems to design and build as a career because I think that water is very important. Without clean and reliable water and adequate sanitation a community has a hard time existing.

Why I am a Mormon

My family have been members of the LDS church for several generations so I was taken to church all through my childhood. When I went to college I had the chance to decide if I was going to follow what I had been raised to believe and do, or if I was going to choose something else, or just plain do nothing. I thought about it a lot and I prayed about it. As I prayed the Lord helped me feel that I should continue following the teachings that I had received and had been living. This was the experience that helped me to choose to be active in the LDS church because I wanted to, not just because that is what my family did. I try to follow the teachings of Jesus and of the latter-day prophets that I learn at church. I know that by following these teachings I am doing what Jesus wants me to do and it helps me to find ways to be kind to other people and to be happy. One of the truths that my church teaches that is so important to me is that families can be together forever. I look at my lovely wife and children and I think that I want to be with them forever. The kids are growing up so fast and even though they are still young I know that it won't be long before they are off to college and making their place in the world. I want to be with my wife and kids forever. The fact that Christ's authority to make a marriage valid for more than "till death do us part," but even after this life has ended has been brought back to earth is a miracle. This authority was lost from the earth when Christ and his Apostles were killed. Much of the world still is married "until death do you part" because that is all the authority that they have. They cannot say "married for eternity" because they don't have that authority from Christ. I have prayed to know that Christ has called a modern day prophet and given him this authority and through the feelings that I have had while praying and asking, I know that this power is on earth again and families can be united forever.

How I live my faith

The main way that I live my religion is by trying to be nice to everyone. Jesus taught that we need to love and serve each other and I try to follow his example. I also try to be active in church activities and help out where I can. I attend my church meetings, three hours every Sunday, where I learn the teachings of Jesus and have the opportunity to build other people through my experiences. I know that life is hard sometimes and it helps to have people who care about you and support you. I am assigned to help out a few families in my congregation so I go to their houses every month and visit with them and see how I can help. I remember visiting people with my dad when I was a young man and helping sheetrock a basement and garage, rake lots of leaves and otherwise help out. It is nice to know that there is someone you can call when you are in need. I like it when those assigned to my family come visit. I appreciate the encouragement and the help that I receive. I live my faith by trying to keep my words and actions clean. I try not to use bad language and tell distasteful stories or jokes. I like to laugh and have fun, but not at the expense of other people.
