Hi I'm Jason Phelps

I grew up in Bonney Lake, Washington. I'm an Atmospheric Science major. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Having grown up only an hour away from Mount Rainier National Park, I am an avid hiker. I love the outdoors, everything from hiking to snowshoeing, biking, cross-country skiing, camping, canoeing, and just about anything outdoors. I like hanging out with friends, playing board games, and doing fun stuff. I'm a college student majoring in Atmospheric Science and have a deep passion for weather and climate. I have been interested in the weather ever since I was really young. My first memory is of my family and I taking a trip to Arkansas and getting stuck in a snowstorm around Easter time. This may have been what started my passion in weather.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents are both christian, so I grew up going to a Methodist church. I was involved with Campus Crusade for Christ when I went to a community college my first two years of college. One day towards the end of June 2011, I met an elder on campus who suggested I read the first chapter out of the Book of Morman and then pray about it. He told me a little about the church and gave me a Book of Morman. I read the first chapter and felt empowered by it and just felt a real inspiration from it--it's hard to describe but I could just tell this felt right. I continued reading from the Book of Morman and met with elders from the church twice a week. I have continued reading a chapter or two from the Book of Morman every day and feel very lifted up by it. The church is awesome and so is the spirit that comes with it! I was baptised into the church and confirmed August 13, 2011, and have been continuing to grow in faith ever since.

How I live my faith

I participate in activities with my ward (geographical group of friends) every Monday night. These are usually fun activities like BBQs, game nights, human pacman, baseball, and other activites. Sundays there are church services and sunday school type lessons that are really great for feeling empowered by the Spirit. I make these things a high priority in my life and they are a great sense of community and friendship for me. I also meet with the Elders (missionaries) twice a week and the Elders are great for helping me better get to know the church and community as well as grow in my faith.
