Hi I'm Cherlyn

I enjoy traveling, riding my bicycle, singing because it makes me happy, being with my family and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Seattle. I have always enjoyed beauty pageants and you could imagine my excitement when I learned that I am related to Miss Universe 1960. She is my mother's cousin. I have always enjoyed playing sports. In my youth my sports of choice were soccer, softball and basketball. When I was 21 I served a mission in South Africa. Here I developed my singing voice. I love singing the Hymns. As I sing them I find myself singing my testimony of our Savior. One of my favorites is "I Know that My Redeemer Lives." I was a busy stay at home mom of 4 children, however They have grown and I now have only one in middle school. The others are married, going to college or working. I recently went back to school and received my Associates Degree in Technical Arts. I am also a AAMA certified Medical Assistant. I am blessed to have such a wonderful job. Serving others makes me happy. I enjoy bicycling and have completed the Seattle to Portland bike ride a distance of 204 miles. I have also completed 2 sprint triathlons. I love weddings and ran my own photography business for 10 years. I have been married to my wonderful husband for 25 years. I love to cook but cannot bake to save my life.

Why I am a Mormon

My grandmother was one of the happiest people I have ever known. She loved her family and loved her Savior Jesus Christ. I wanted be that kind of person too. As I watched her I could see that her happiness came through serving others and keeping the commandments. I served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints in Johannesberg South Africa. Here I experienced some of my lifes most meaningful moments. I was away from my family and loved ones and had to rely on my Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ for comfort and direction. It was wonderful to help others understand that their life has a purpose and we can be forgiven for our mistakes. I am a member of this church because of the courage, peace, joy and knowledge it gives me. Being the mother of a child with Asperger Syndrome has had its challenges but has been a blessing to me and to my family. We see others for who they are. We are all children of God. One of my favorite sayings is..."All children are gifted they just open their gifts at different times."

How I live my faith

I am currently serving as the Primary Chorister. I love this calling and enjoy teaching beautiful songs about our Savior and His gospel to children ages 3 - 11. I help wherever I can. I try to listen for promptings each day to make a difference in someone's life.
