Hi I'm Eric
I was raised in a small Idaho farming community. I'm an attorney, a father, and a husband. I'm a Mormon.
If there is one thing I'm in love with after my wife and family, it's books. I love reading in the morning, noon, and night. My favorite two novels are "The Winds of War" and its sequel "War and Remembrance" by Herman Wouk. I first read them in high school and have since read them 8-9 times. I love historical fiction, history, Agatha Christie mysteries, and autobiographies. I still remember reading my first Hardy Boys book at age eight. It was "The sign of the Crooked Arrow." I was hooked. I also love photography. It is such a pleasure to look at a beautiful picture of a person or a landscape and think, "I took that!" Being in nature with a camera and lenses is peaceful and satisfying. Taking pictures of my family having fun is also terrific. I love my family and can't wait to come home to them each night. They give me more joy than anything else. They are what this life is really all about.
Why I am a Mormon
I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints because I know from a witness of the Holy Ghost that this is the Lord's church. I didn't always know this. I was born into the church and never really questioned whether it was true or not until I turned 19 and decided to serve a mission. It was then that I got really scared because I was going to spend the next two years of my life teaching people about Jesus Christ and the restoration of His gospel through the prophet Joseph Smith. Was Joseph Smith really a prophet who was called of God? Was this the Lord's church? Was the Book of Mormon scripture? I couldn't say for certain if I knew these things to be true. I began praying to receive an answer. The answer came. I was watching a church film about Joseph Smith searching for which church to join and how he came to be in the woods praying when both God and his son, Jesus Christ, appeared to him. I remember a powerful glow swelling my chest and an overwhelming happiness flood my body. I felt the tears rolling down my cheeks and didn't care that others might see them. I cried for the next half hour. I knew. I knew that the Holy Ghost had born witness to my soul that Joseph Smith WAS called by the Lord to be a prophet. Knowing that, I knew the Book of Mormon was scripture and the word of God, just like the Bible is. I knew I could look anyone in the eye and tell them that the Lord's church was on the earth again to prepare the earth for his return. I'll never forget the Lord answering my prayer. I know God lives. I know he sent his Son to was away our sins if we repent and follow him.
How I live my faith
The thing I love most about my church is that everyone helps each other become better. We help each other by serving each other. The home-teaching program is something no other church has. Every family or member of our church has two men assigned to them to help watch over them and be there as a support. I love being a home teacher and getting to know people better. In my present calling, I get the opportunity to speak in a different ward each month. I love meeting the members in each ward and feeling the spirit that is present when people gather together to hear the word of the Lord. I feel rejuvenated after worshipping on Sunday and taking the time to draw close to the Lord. It certainly makes Monday morning a lot better!
