Hi I'm Brian

I'm an engineer, and proud of it. Short and sweet. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a software engineer, and I love crafting a simple, clear, and sophisticated user experience. I've been fortunate to work on web pages and devices that millions of people use daily. I take pride in producing something that looks and works great, and that people enjoy using. I really try to make the world a better place. When I have free time, I'm usually trying to learn something new by reading non-fiction, or technology and business news. I'm fascinated by the field of Economics, both the financial aspect and especially the study of how people respond to incentives. I've been married over ten years, and have 3 wonderful kids. We spend a lot of time working together, and playing games. We try to live a simple life and to not let distractions get in the way of what's truly important. Every week we get together as a family and have a lesson and game night, which includes a gospel principle (like honesty), a "learning time" (like how volcanoes work), and an activity.

Why I am a Mormon

My father joined this church several years before I was born, and my mother has always been a member of the church. So I've been a Mormon my whole life. None of us is able to choose how we start out this life, we're only able to choose what we do with what we're given. I feel like I've been given an abundance of blessings in my life, and I try to give back because with great blessings comes great responsibility. I've had a lot of experiences over the years, including serving a mission, that have led me to see the hand of God in my life, and in the lives of others. The peaceful feeling of love that comes from serving others, and when discussing the gospel is a reassurance to me that that is the way to achieve true happiness. Given my engineering background, sometimes it's easy to wish for scientific evidence that God lives and loves us. I don't understand many mysteries of God, but I know that when you open your heart, God fills it with his love.

How I live my faith

I really enjoy being able to travel to virtually any city in the world, and be able to find a chapel filled with welcoming, like-minded Mormons. It's comforting to be able to trust and serve each other, and it's a real source of joy to be able to associate with such great people. I try to live a life of integrity, and to give back to the world more than I take. I yearn for a world where this is the norm. "Be the change you want to see in the world."
