Hi I'm Karen

I am from Provo, UT. I am a major nerd, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am passionate about many things! I love to do hobby photography, jewelry making, reading, writing... a little bit of everything! I love to travel and if I had a choice I would live at Disneyland. All in all...I'm a huge nerd. But that's okay, because life is better when you are passionate about something, no? I love to sing-its one of my favorite things to do in the entire world! Individually, but especially in choirs. I hope someday to audition for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, but in the meantime, I perform in the FANTABUGLORIOUS Mapleton Chorale in Utah County, UT. One of my favorite memories is getting to travel to NYC with the Mapleton Chorale to perform in the Lincoln Center.

Why I am a Mormon

Both my parents are Mormon, but I have gained a knowledge of the truthfulness of the gospel for myself over the years. One of the reasons why I love knowing the truth, is the knowledge that families are LITERALLY forever. Knowing that even if the worst were to happen, that I would get to see my family again...the fact that death is NOT the end is such a comfort to me. I am thankful that this opportunity is available to us through marriage in the temple, and hope to soon begin my own eternal family. I have a knowledge that Christ is my savior, my brother, and that he LOVES me. I know that our Father in Heaven has an endless love for each of us, and that he wants us to do all we can so that we can live with him again.

How I live my faith

Right now I serve in my singles ward as a chorister in our women's meetings (Relief Society), and it is so much fun! We don't have a piano where we meet, and we don't have hymnbooks, but we make do, and I do my best to select hymns for us to sing that help us feel closer to God and to set the tone for our lesson each week.

What is the Mormon lifestyle like? How do Mormons live?

Karen
It boggles my mind that people think that we're so different. We live our lives are very normal! I spend time watching movies, reading books, going to the mall, and eating waaaay too much junk food. I spend time with my family, and go out on the weekends with my friends and boyfriend. The things I do that might seem 'odd,' to others...reading the scriptures, daily prayer, regular church attendance...these things are personal choices. I read the scriptures because not only do I find it personally enriching, but it is INTERESTING! Its historically relevant, and on the most basic level...You learn from history's mistakes and triumphs. I pray because it helps me remember that our Heavenly Father loves me, and its not just a prayer, its me TALKING to him. I go to church because it helps me unwind and achieve a spiritual balance at the start of a new week. I also get to renew covenants I made with God so that I can be close to him. Show more Show less

Why is self-reliance important to Mormons? Why do Mormons talk about emergency preparedness?

Karen
Wanna know the truth? Its preparation for the zombie apocalypse. *nods* Not really. But its funny to think of it that way. When I was a small child, my parents taught me to always wear full pajamas to bed. When I asked them why, they simply said that in case the house burned down, I probably didn't want to be seen in my underwear by all our neighbors. The thought was MORTIFYING for me, and ever since then, I have ensured that I wore good pajamas to bed. The same principle applies to most everything when I think about emergency preparedness. You never know when something could happen. Whether it be natural disaster or personal financial hardship, life sometimes throws you lemons. If you remembered to prepare, you can make lemonade and ride out the hard times. Being prepared also helps you be self reliant. It builds self confidence and helps you better utilize what resources you have. If you and your family are prepared and able to take care of yourselves, you can better help others. The Lord blesses both you and those whom you are able to help. I myself have been blessed by the foresight and assistance provided by people who were better prepared than me, and I hope to pay it forward. Show more Show less
