Hi I'm Jesse

I'm a native Coloradan. I'm a father of five, a telecommunications engineer, a hockey fan, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm married to a San Luis Valley girl named Janela (Portugese for "window"). We have five children - two girls and three boys. My favorite past times include watching my children play volleyball and hockey, snowboarding with them and golfing. I also enjoy fantasy literature, especially Tolkien and Robert Jordan. I grew up near the Grand Mesa on the western slope of Colorado. I have a degree in English Literature which naturally led me to a career in Telecommunications. My heroes in life are the Lord Jesus Christ and Peter Forsberg.

Why I am a Mormon

I have long had a testimony of God and the Savior Jesus Christ. As a boy, I had many questions about Christianity that my various church leaders could not answer to my satisfaction, including: Where did I come from?, What happens to someone who never has the opportunity in this life to hear the "good news"?, and Why is marriage just until "death do us part" and not eternal?. As a teenager, I took the missionary lessons from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and found the answers to many of my questions in their explanation of the plan of salvation. I joined the church at 18, and as I continued to study the Book of Mormon, pray and eventually serve a mission, I felt the Holy Ghost confirm the truthfulness of the restoration of the Church of Jesus Christ in these latter days.

How I live my faith

The prophet Joseph Smith said "Faith is a principle of action." It's one thing to believe in God; it's another to keep his commandments. I try to follow the Savior's example in loving God and loving my neighbor, and I try to show that love to my Heavenly Father by keeping the ten commandments and following the standards of the church. We pay tithing, keep the Lord's law of heath (Word of Wisdom) and strive to be chaste and honest in our dealings with our fellow man. Our family attends Sacrament meeting each week on Sunday where we renew our baptismal covenants to take upon us the name of Jesus Christ, always remember him and keep his commandments. We try to spend the rest of the Sabbath worshiping our Heavenly Father by studying the scriptures, praying and serving His children. During the other 6 days of the week, we also read scriptures and pray daily, work hard and play hard. We accept opportunities to serve in various church callings. Currently I'm serving as the ordained minister (Bishop) for our congregation (ward). My current calling is almost as time consuming as my job and offers me many opportunities to get to know the other members of the church, especially the youth whom I interview frequently. I do it because I love my Heavenly Father and His children. I know God lives and Jesus is the Christ. I know Jesus Christ established a church during his mortal ministry and restored it in these latter days through the prophet Joseph Smith. I know we have had living prophets on the earth since the restoration, and currently that prophet is Thomas S. Monson. My life has been greatly blessed by my membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
