Hi I'm Shelly.

I'm a daughter, a granddaughter, a sister, a cousin and a friend. I'm a nursing student. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Colorado. I was raised as a Mormon. Currently, I am continuing my education in nursing and plan to finish soon, if all goes well. I have arthritis. I was diagnosed 3 years ago. It can be hard to get up in the morning, hard to exercise, and I battle fatigue every day. However, I have not let that stop me. I ran a half marathon last year and completed the whole thing! Just like that run, I make it through nursing school one step at a time; I literally take it all one step at a time. Sooner or later, I will find out where it will all take me.

Why I am a Mormon

With my arthritis, it is hard to get up every day. And yet I do get up every day. It is a miracle that I can keep moving without pain, that I can run, play sports, and even ride a bike. But not all pain is physical. Pain can be spiritual, emotional, and mental. It is through the Atonement of Jesus Christ that I have found a way to relieve all pain. I cannot keep going without the Atonement. I cannot be who I am today without remembering the blessings of the Atonement, of being a daughter of a loving Heavenly Father, and of being a blessed woman on this earth. I am a Mormon because it means everything to me. It is how I get through each day, how I find strength, and guidance in my life.

How I live my faith

I live my faith every day by reading my scriptures, among other things. Also, I attend a single's ward for church, which involves many other single adults between the ages of 18 and 30. I love my ward. And I love my calling, which involves organizing visiting teaching. Visiting teaching is a program among the adult sisters of the church, involving monthly visits and forming friendships. This is a program instituted by God for the women of the church to come to know one another and have opportunities to serve one another. I truly appreciate this particular organization for the friendships and blessings it has brought into my life.

What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

I learn everything from the scriptures. As I study, ponder, and pray to understand, I receive personal answers, answers that matter to me. I come to understand more about the gospel of Jesus Christ through the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost tells me of its truthfulness, not through words but through positive feelings. I know that the Bible is the word of God, as long as it is translated correctly. The Book of Mormon and other modern scriptures testify of the word of God in addition to the Bible. All together, they testify of the word of God and his gospel on the earth. The scriptures were put on earth for us, to understand, to read, to know more. Show more Show less
